Title: Grand Prix, Standard spot or play differently? Post by: Omm on January 19, 2015, 09:27:53 AM Hi guys, I'm far from results oriented but this has been playing on my mind and just want to make sure next time I make the best play
Grand Prix blinds 12000/6000 ante 2000 (250 left 170 paid) have 250k ish and am in the SB. CO has me covered and its folded round to him, he raises to 37k, (pretty decent player, started day 2 with 700k which would have been one of the chip leaders, lost a couple of standard pots) has probably open raised 2/6 times. I look at my cards and gave Ac Kh, I think for about 30 secs and push all in. He calls and turns over Ad Qc, you can guess what happened next Flop Aspades Qs 8s Turn 7h River 3s My question is, Should I have played it differently pre flop? I know it would be unlikely I would get away from the hand on the flop but the Gand could have turned out a lot different if a had called/min raised pre flop. Now that I have started writing this out I actually feel stupid asking the question as I think the answer is probably obvious but I'll carry on anyway. My only thinking is if I min raised he most likely would have re raised (I think) and we would have got it in anyway. Is there ever a reason for just calling and seeing what happens post flop? Flame away!!! Title: Re: Grand Prix, Standard spot or play differently? Post by: BulldozerD on January 19, 2015, 09:32:24 AM Looks 100% standard to me

TANGENT ALERT: Dislike using the word standard (although I do use it myself, I make a conscious effort to kick myself when I do). Considering the fact that most of the people that play, by a heavy majority, don't actually win, what is supposedly "standard" to many in some cases might not be the best option. I think this word also encourages people to gloss over situations and not give alternatives decisions the proper consideration. As a random example, I see people 3b hands out of the blinds like KQ to a late position raise and call it "standard" regularly, and I personally think (most of the time) it's shitting away money. It wasn't until I stopped thinking of it as "standard" and started thinking about why I did it that I realised this. END TANGENT. Hand is standard imo.
