I've got tomtom on my phone, and it works perfectly through the stereo in my car.

Can't help beyond that, sorry mate.

Nav free and pay a quid or two to get rid of the ads, nothing wrong with it. I'm a travelling salesperson and use it most days.

I use Navigon and have been very happy with it for the quite a few years now. Not sure of the cost but it cost me £40 at the time.

It only uses Internet for traffic updates.

I use Spyglass for on-road and off-road navigation. I mark waypoints, save locations to get back to them later. It allows to read maps with only GPS signal and shows your gps coordinates, altitude, speed and more.
But it hasn't got turn-by-turn navigation. https://itunes.apple.com/app/spyglass/id332639548?mt=8&at=11lLc7&ct=fs

I use google navigation because it works with voice only and the screen turned off, which uses almost no battery.

It only uses GPS t6o plan the route so that's only a couple of MBs.

I would like to find one that works without data to use abroad, even if I had to buy it, but I would like a voice only option.

Navfree works abroad too.  You can download country maps in advance from the UK on your wifi to save roaming charges and using the gps is nothing to do with using data.  I used it in Spain last year, worked a treat.

Does it work with the screen off Graham?

This could become a theme with questions you ask me Red but I don't know.

Can you not leave the screen on?  Could always get an in-car phone charger if battery power is an issue.

True, but the phone works hard, gets hot, I can't use it in my pocket via an earpiece while on my motorbike etc. It's just not an elegant solution.

Navfree is free, you could always give it a go to see if it suits your needs.

Waze is by far the best.  Real time traffic updates too.

I just checked this out.  The traffic info it provides is very impressive!  Also, if you check for the nearest petrol stations it gives you a list with the price of a gallon.

I can see why Google paid $1.3B to buy them.

Always gotta use common senses of what seems reasonable with any sat nav. I've used 3 different ones over the years and they all do that sometimes.

My Mrs's Tom Tom always seems to want to go around the M25 for some reason.  We went somewhere south of Guildford (from Bracknell, it's a straight line down) on Saturday but it took us M3, M25 then A3 for some reason.  Had I known the place I was going before that I'd have obv gone the quicker way but we were in a rush and I didn't get time to look.    -manpoints

Does it work if you turn your data off before you open the app and enter your destination Lee? like you would if you had no data access?

Try planning a route to somewhere outside your local area, say Swansea.
