Title: Advice please!
Post by: aceten0ff on January 28, 2015, 02:23:47 PM
Playing a 42k stack with blinds at 100/200, new player joins the table with the starting stack (30k). He raises from an early position to 450, action is folded round to me on the button. I have  Ahrt Ad, I re-raise to 1000.... he calls. Flop is   4d  3d 7h, he checks, i bet 900, he calls. Turn card is  7d. He checks to me again, i decide to fire again for 1750. Villain re-raises to 6k, i think for a while and decide to make the call. River card is  Qd. Villain bets 9k, I make the call and he shows  4s 4c for a full house. Is this a cooler, or should I be folding to the river bet? Should I ever check back the turn for pot control?

Hey!

Pre flop I would raise a bit bigger about 1200-1350.

As played, it's a really wet board, i'd be raising a bit bigger on the flop, the pot is 2.3k?

Would make it about 1500 and get value from a lot of worse. I expect he's calling the vast majority of the time.

On the turn, he doesn't have many 7's here at all and we have the back up of the nut D draw, betting this for sure.

When he re-raises you OTT, it's either going to be a flush or a boat or quads, this is hardly ever going to be a bluff.

Think we still have to call though, 2 see what he does on the river.

When the Qd comes in and he bets the river, We have Ad, Qd on the board. A lot of his flushes i'd expect to have KdQd etc. He still fires out on the river, which I don't expect him to do with a turned flush. The way it's played out it looks more like a flopped set as opposed to turned flush.

I think bigger pre flop and on the flop. I prefer a check on the turn because we hold Ad and essentially there isn't too many rivers we hate. This will allow villain to have a bluff range on the river which we can call.

As played folding the turn to the chk/raise. Calling here has compounded the mistake on the river for another 9k.

So you think we're beat, but you still call the raise to ''see what he does on the river''?

OP, 150bb effective stack so raise more pre, doesn't have be tons more as we have position but we can eek out more value pre.
Bet slightly more on the flop.
Check back the turn.

Is it never possible for him to make the same play on the turn with over pairs such as 88, 99, 1010? Or would this be classed as him turning his hand into a bluff?

It's not impossible, just very unlikely. Firstly I believe villain is less likely to raise these pairs on the turn if they contain a diamond so that lowers down the amount of combos. Villain just has more value combos than bluff combos on the turn. Plus the sizing of the turn raise is pretty big.
