Title: Blondites tourny last night
Post by: Dirk Diggler on June 24, 2005, 09:39:28 AM
Just like to add my thanks to ironside for organising the tourny. It was a great structure and great value - even though I didn't hang around long enough to actually make the most of it as i 'knocked myself out' in position 69 (very apt for moi for those of you who know who the great Dirk Diggler is!) trying to stop a small raiser nicking my big blind when I'm holding JJ (the best hand i'd seen....) but i was up against KK....boo hoo...anyways.....

Thanks to all concerned (incl Crypto). Congratulations to all those who cashed and I look forward to the next one.

Thanks to everyone involved. I don't play much tournament poker but thoroughly enjoyed last night. Good play and good company.

Next time I get to 2nd in chips with 15 left, I'm checking the auto fold box and heading off to make a cup of tea!

I have read through the posts, and it sounds like it was a great game played in the right spirit, im really miffed that i missed it, but im sure you will all forgive me,and be greatfull that i wasnt there cos i would have caned you all :P .... as long as we all support these events and dont give the organisers so much hassle that they give up , there will be many many more to come, and i will get my chance to play. well done to all the money winners, but most of all well done to everyone who played and supported the event.

I can only echo the sentiments above.

One further observation....the standard of play from what I saw was good, you tricky blighters!

Any chance of anyone allowing a single blind steal from me through next time?   ::) ::)

Bring on the next one....Pot limit Omaha Hi/Low perhaps?

Title: Re: Blondites tourny last night
Post by: The Wall on June 24, 2005, 11:02:39 AM
Yep the standard of play (especially on my table) was excellent, even when I flopped monster hands I couldnt make any chips!  Luckly afterwards I went back to playing the the 10 STT's where my all ins with trips where happily being called by chancers with middle pairs..............ahhhh thats better.....

surely the highest quality of play ever seen in a 20 online game. Because we were all answerable for any silly move perhaps. Can't remember ever enjoying online poker that much. Thanks to all involved.
I can't wait til the next one. roll on weekly games with a league I say.

I've played quite a few tourneys on the Betfair site, but that was the first with a 20 minute clock.

Most are 10 or 12, with an occasional 15, like the wsop qualifier on Sunday.

The extra 5 minutes made it easily the best structured online tourney that I have ever experienced.
There was plenty of play left even when we were down to the last two tables.

The best thing though was that during the whole tourney I never saw "moron" or "retard" typed in once !

it was a pleasure to play with everyone, not just because I was fortunate enough to cash.
But mainly because of the good-natured sporting atmosphere with poker players who knew what they were doing.

Thanks a lot for a most enjoyable evening, and let's do it again soon.

 :)

Indeed, that must be the first online tourny where I was able to build steadily and not feel any pressure from the blinds.

I'd just like to add my thanks to all concerned for organising the tourney. really had good fun even though I busted myself out in 51st with a dreadful play (decided someone was bluffing & my AJ high was better than his paired Queen!)
 Thanks again, wormster

Building a steady stack would have been nice, mine was up and down more often than (fill in your own smutty metaphor)

Seriously, in due course a league would be a sensational idea, with Poker 425 providing the funds for a final Freeroll for the top players in the league (pretty please)!   ;)

As for funding.... I used William Hills software last night, for the first time, and it was rather good......... was that the right thing to say?  ::)

i know its been said plenty of times already but it was a great torney. loved the 20min clock you could be really patient and wait for the big hands to come around i think it suited my game nicely. also it was great there was no bad feeling even when there was bad beats. well done all those who organised it roll on the next one. any ideas when that may be???

When/where the next one?

We are talking and listening & trying to decide how best to move forward. There WILL be others, regularly. But we need to get it right.

Too often overdoes it. Not often enough, the interest wanes. League or no league? Added Money - we cant expect that sort of bonus very often. The Poll had Crypto and Stars neck and neck, Crypto just ahead, so we thought we'd rotate. Not sure now, last night was SO good, & the structure in particular was spot on.

We took our time - to the annoyance of some - to decide when and where to have our first one, and as luck would have it, all went well.

But one thing IS certain. 20 will be the upper limit. Many folks, the majority in fact, can't easily manage more than that. If we made it 200 or 2,000, we could not have more fun than we had last night. So 20 max is a cert.

So we will give it a couple of days before letting you know what has been decided. In the meantime, give us your views please. And NO, do NOT start a poll please. Just feedback.

Thank you to everybody, by the way, for their support and kind words. Except that toerag, thebigO, who nabbed the 100 bounty. Pah!

Title: Re: Blondites tourny last night
Post by: Jimmy B on June 25, 2005, 05:11:04 AM
keeping it at 20 should ensure numbers remain decent whilst there's still a good prize for the winner. If you can get crypto to continue with the 20min format (i guess a continuing bonus would be asking for too much in the long run!) tis hard to see any reason to move it elsewhere? Making it a league would be fun too if its not too much hassle - maybe a fortnightly tourney on rotating days of the week to make sure everyone gets a chance and a quarterly winner on the leaderboard getting a small prize.

Jimmy,

Thanks.

Well, as I said, we will assess the feedback & then get it on.

But I have to say, your post rings all the right bells with me.

If it aint broke dont fix it Tikay. Keep the thing on crypto as even though I went out early I hung around on the rail and the 20 minute clock was a godsend. Like the idea of a league as well.

Also in agreement, although I am not sure if Crypto would be so kind as to even keep it juice free. There were a number of new customers to them that night so, perhaps, somebody with a little astute business sense there  may think it is worthwhile repeating the offer and seeing if even more come olong over the coming months.

totally agree with ariston. ther seems no reason to move. i liked  the clock too and a league would be good fun if it was not too much of a hassle to the organisers to set up.

Post by: AdamM on June 25, 2005, 10:15:58 AM
I initially voted for stars and Laddies but, having set up a crypto account specially would like to keep it where it is. the vote wasn't really for where to hold it, more an indication of where people were currently playing their poker.

sooner the better for me

Title: Re: Blondites tourny last night
Post by: The Truth on June 25, 2005, 10:22:29 AM
I am happy to keep it where it is - especially as I have spoken to Phil Quayle of William Hills and they are set to support P4C in a big way. Many thanks to Tikay in this matter.

Also if you guys moved it Angie would kick my head in after her debut on the crypto network.

Can someone please tell me how long bragging rights last and are they suppossed to hurt?

Title: Re: Blondites tourny last night

They last until the next blonde tourney, I reckon.

And yes, extremely painful !

Title: Re: Blondites tourny last night

Bragging rights are the most painful thing about poker. I cant wait to get to vegas and meet up with john, chubbs, kev and rob but if robs got that bloody intercasino trophy with him I will swing for him. If I have to sit through one more meal with that staring me in the face I will go completely loco I can promise you.

This is good, solid, well reasoned & sensible feedback, exactly what we need.

We are soaking it all up, and will be in a position to decide by Monday.

And we ARE in contact with contacts at card rooms, as we had been whilst the original debate was raging. Wheels are turning.

Juice - I am very hopeful that it will be juice free, there are several ways we can deal with that. I'd say 80% certain to be juice free. I assume that would be welcomed by most.

Administration of a league? Hassly, yes. But even if blonde staff could not cope, I am very confident indeed that a blondeite out there would manage it for us, it's that kinda site.

Oh, and Ariston - thanks for reminding me about the Inter Casino Trophy. I will bring it with me.

Not at I would need them but as my back up I have Simon The Bubble zach (greek mafiosa  ;D) Howard Plant (psycho to his friends  ;D) and Womble (always beware of the quiet ones  :P). I am telling you not asking LEAVE THE BLOODY TROPHY AT HOME.
We will give you a touncing in a little round robin tournament at the airport and if the trophy is there we will be claiming it.

Dream on sunshine, dream on.

The next Heads-Up Challenge is on the Wednesday of Luton Festival week (more about which soon) - I noted at Luton last night they have a big poster advertising their next Festival, & it's actually mentioned - IN BOLD - "NOTTS v LUTON Heads Up Challenge". No mention of Blackpool. But you can come and watch. You may learn something by watching.

Not gonna start all this again, you won fair and square and well played. Think the points been made to dave about bragging rights though! Look forward to seeing you all at the airport- I could do with an extra few dollars to travel with. I am not one to hold grudges or be bitter after all this time but seriously bring the trophy at your peril. As for luton bigging up their chances with posters and the like I will only say one thing- we were there at the start and we will get our revenge.

no, ariston, we are not "bigging up our chances",it was Grosvenor's poster nothing to do with the players,  but it is nice to see Grosvenor advertising it (unprompted by the players) on their flyers.

Now we have had the trial run and seen what fun it is I think you should sort out a league Tikay. Maybe run one for 6 months or so and have various blonde prizes; maybe a days trainspotting with yourself, private tuition with the great blonde himself or an evenings lapdancing with ironside?

Rangers v Celtic at the Rangers end with Dave?

oh the possiblities

If there was going to be a top prize for a league, I can't think of a better prize than having Dave Colclough do a Poker Godfather kind of thing while the winner plays an online tournament. It could be done over the phone although I realise it could take hours of Dave's time so might not be a realistic thing to hope for. If not how about a Heads Up match on stars or something, Sherrif Fatman got to play Greg Raymer when he won the 2+2 King of the Zoo league and I think that battle only lasted about 10 minutes. :)

Really annoyed I missed this, moved recently and no internet access in the week yet. Congrats to wonky, had no idea the standard on here was so dire  ;)

Sounds like it used the old 500added structure - by far the best online tournie ever offered and who's shameful, shameful scrapping should haunt crypto to the end of their days  >:(  Anyway, nice to see it can be brought back for special events  ;D ;D ;D

Which brings me to my reason for posting - someone suggested holding a similar tournie fortnightly - I think that's too often and a monthly game would be better. [and be more suited to encouraging the sponsors and top players to repeat their generosity in donating their resources and time etc.].

Oh and is phil_and the disrespectful so and so that cracked my aces with 56o last night?

Title: Re: Blondites tourny last night
Post by: AdamM on June 26, 2005, 03:47:13 PM
Yes that was Phil at my home game last night. He's quite capable of playing any two cards and your aces are never safe when he's there. If it's any consilation, last time he played at mine he lost twice HU, once getting JJ beat by 55 and once getting AA beat by KQ so he knows the feeling himself.

Divaflava - at what intervals will we hold blonde tourneys?

You appear to think along the same lines us us here at blonde. Too often will kill it, lose the novelty, so we are cuurently deciding betwen fortnightly or monthly.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooo.......

Last time we ran a poll on this, folks were running around in all directions organising comps off their own back before the poll had even closed, & ignoring the wishes of the majority. Chaos ensued, & the usually harmonious Forum was torn apart by all sorts of argy bargy.

Never again PUR-LEASE.....

Title: Re: Blondites tourny last night
Post by: tikay on June 27, 2005, 01:45:06 PM
Well that sounds like we are thinking along the right lines.

Fortnightly it is then.......

But seriously, yes, monthly seems more & more the way to go. Other sites have tried these sorts of things, & suffered falling numbers every month. We have to learn from that. It' not that we want huge nurmbers, in fact, we don't, it would lose the intimacy, but steady growth would be the target a nice, gently rising graph. Then we all continue, pretty much, to know each other.

A side issue of the blonde thing is how much it enhances a trip to a comp, to bump into fellow blondeites adds to the pleasure enormously. Well it does for me, anyway.

Absolutely. I wouldn't have been at Walsall if it wasn't for blondepoker and delaying the journey South to return the card room was purely because of you lot.
