Title: Fitbit anyone Post by: Nakor on February 09, 2015, 10:11:03 AM As per the title, anyone use one or equivalent technology?
is it any good? if so which one? Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Longines on February 09, 2015, 10:41:34 AM I bought a Flex in August last year. As a stats geek I love it, the sleep analysis was an eye opener:
(http://oi59.tinypic.com/2vczsax.jpg) I started getting off the tube two stops earlier to ensure I made the 10,000 steps a day. Working from home is the real killer, lucky if I crack 2,000 on those days. Bought my retired Dad one as well and we see each others steps total - sobering that I only just walk further than he does. I'll probably buy a Surge soon and pass the Flex on. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Marky147 on February 09, 2015, 02:06:48 PM I created a new sleep record after a heavy weekend back when I was living in London... Went to bed on Monday morning, and slept for almost 24 hours :D
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: kinboshi on February 09, 2015, 02:33:45 PM I got the missus a Flex a few weeks ago. The app and website are very good, and it's so about motivation for her really. It's working so far, helping her keep track of what she eats and comparing it to the calories burnt.
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on February 09, 2015, 02:57:04 PM learn something everyday here.
I have piled over a stone on since losing my job through being PMR and really am struggling to become motivated again. This might be good for me to try. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Junior Senior on February 09, 2015, 08:45:38 PM The wife has a fitbit. She loves it. Gets obsessed by doing the 10k steps a day and it analyses sleep. It also syncs to iphone and ipad, where you can analyse stats.
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Longines on February 09, 2015, 09:14:30 PM Forgot to say I bought the Aria scales as well. It sync over wifi and uploads your weight and body fat % so makes tracking weight loss very simple.

Work fine with android devices, although check the list in their site to see if your phone/tablet has the right version of Bluetooth. Older devices might not be on the list. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Longines on February 09, 2015, 10:36:32 PM They've been as low as £49 on Amazon: http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Fitbit-Wireless-Activity-Tracker-Wristband/product/B00CIV6990?context=browse
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on February 09, 2015, 10:39:15 PM Thanks both. Will keep my eye on Amazon.

Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on February 09, 2015, 11:15:13 PM Think I saw 70 today. I have only just had surgery last week so not too much in a rush.
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on February 18, 2015, 08:27:14 PM got one. £40 unwanted gift second hand all in original wrapper so fingers crossed it is OK. Just charging it up.
Mean while downloaded a walking tracker and have recorded 24 miles in 6 days so already getting myself motivated but this may motivate me even more. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on February 18, 2015, 08:28:37 PM when i say 24 miles i mean only the walking times were tracked not normal daily activities. ie exercise times only.
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: redsimon on February 18, 2015, 09:13:08 PM hope recovery is going well, that's a lot of miles :) xx
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Acidmouse on February 18, 2015, 10:25:18 PM Got the fitbit HR last week, it's £119 a little expensive but I wanted the heart rate monitor and display. Wife got the version without HR that are £79 from argos, or £69 with £10 discount i got from buying the HR ten mins earlier.
Very happy with them both, the phone apps and web interface give us the right motivation to eat well and walk more! Some people are moaning about the HR not being great but for me its been accurate, esp when walking and sleeping :) Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Royal Flush on February 19, 2015, 07:06:37 AM Got the surge yesterday, like it so far but will report back when I have a few stats
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on February 19, 2015, 08:38:45 AM Got the surge yesterday, like it so far but will report back when I have a few stats Just looked at the surge, suppose it's OK. Not jealous at all. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on February 21, 2015, 01:59:52 PM Just been on a 5 mile walk, met Darren then came back in car. Why gas it registeredthe car jjourney too. Totaly messed up my log now.
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Royal Flush on February 23, 2015, 10:31:07 AM Been wearing it since Thursday whilst at a golf tournament, did 5 rounds in the 4 days and got these totals so far. I didn't use the golf option on the surge for activity, these are just the daily stats:
107,186 steps 324 floors 51.95 miles 24,700 calories Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Sheriff Fatman on February 24, 2015, 08:24:09 AM Tried out pretty much most of these over the last 12 months. Currently wearing a Garmin vivosmart and a Fitbit Surge.
Love the Surge and would recommend it. Costs the most, but the heart-rate technology is pretty unique. Biggest disappointment was the Jawbone Up 24. Nice app, but managed to count half the steps showing on the other bands and had some big gaps where none were registered where they should have been. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: GreekStein on February 24, 2015, 12:24:40 PM these things look great.
Whats the best one to get in terms of giving me as much info and accuracy as I can get and how much am I looking at paying? Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: DaveShoelace on February 24, 2015, 12:31:51 PM I had a jawbone, and it was excellent, from what I could tell very accurate. I stopped using it because as great as it was it didnt change my behaviour one bit.
Which is why I'm waiting for this to come out properly: http://pavlok.com/ Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on February 24, 2015, 11:51:00 PM My flex is hmmmm. Darren took it to work, registered 12 miles which we thought was ott. So today he just used the running app on his android phone on walking mode. Registered just over 6 miles which is about correct. So obviously then if you walk then use the car the flex registers car miles too. Verdict then,
great at registering walking but leave at home if using transport. Not quite sure how that will work though As i sometimes do both. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Longines on February 25, 2015, 08:28:53 AM Strange, my Flex is spot on when I'm travelling and I spend 2 hours+ on trains, tubes and car most days. From memory you program the flex with your height and weight when setting up. If Darren is significantly different in stature then that might throw it out.

OK forgot about the height / weight thing , maybe that did cause the difference for the day Darren tried it but doesn't explain the day i did the walk and car ride. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Woodsey on February 25, 2015, 12:22:31 PM Gone and bought one, hope it motivates me for a while and doesn't get cast off too soon lol.
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Longines on February 25, 2015, 01:54:35 PM I find it good for the motivation - was very near a tube station last night but seeing that I'd done 8000ish steps I walked for 30 minutes to another station. Been wearing mine for six months now, received this email this morning.

Haha, I thought that about another photo of them. Jimmy Atkin. :D Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Woodsey on March 09, 2015, 01:15:47 PM Got one of these and have been using it for the last few days.
Just wondering how accurate you guys think they are. Its telling me I have used 1500 calories already today, not sure i believe that. Probs walked around a hospital for about 45 mins, otherwise i've not really done too much, anyone think this is accurate? im about 100kg if that is an important factor. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: kinboshi on March 09, 2015, 07:55:08 PM If you sat still all day and did no exercise or walking about at all, you'd still use about a few thousand calories (give or take a thousand calories).
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Woodsey on March 09, 2015, 08:58:34 PM In many ways i wish it told me i was buring less calories, seeing how much I'm burning almost gives me permission to eat more! ;D anyway, good gadget nonetheless....
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on March 10, 2015, 07:20:36 AM Gosh you burn lots of calories. Must be a man thing.

Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on March 10, 2015, 10:20:53 AM Nice, I see it records a lot more than mine.
I have tried to do screen shots but not happening. Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: The_nun on March 10, 2015, 10:23:58 AM I do not log my activities and food/ drink as I should. Maybe when I am back in work again and have less to concentrate on I may do it then.
Title: Re: Fitbit anyone Post by: Longines on March 29, 2015, 09:51:17 PM Took eldest son to check out Edinburgh Uni on Friday and Mrs Long decided we were going to hit the shops & bars = new daily record:
