Why is firefox supposed to be so good?

It's allegedly faster (i have noticed no difference at all), supposedly has more functionality (tabbed browsing which is a small plugin for IE and the next version will have it anyway) and better security (which is probably true at the moment but i'm not so sure in the future).

Mouse gestures are nice too, as are the numerous other things you can get for it - can make it do most things you like

IFM have you tried the speed up extension or the setting tweaks that speed up FF? You might see a difference then...

A "Timing out" problem is likely to be a problem with your connection or the site itself.

Extensions might be the subject for another thread actually.

I installed everything off Paul Phillips blog mate.
The thing is that i have had several problems with firefox and none ever with IE.
I have lost my bookmarks 3 times (i always keep a backup), it has crashed my computer twice, i have had and sporadically still get the "forever loading page syndrome" on this site.
Maybe it is quicker and all the other things but it is not noticable and really not worth giving up the stability for, i have now reverted to IE for the time being after using FF for about 4-5 months (after you recommended it way back when).

Here's the fix  for the forum tekkies to sort.. this will ensable firefox to run smoothly on this forum

It's come to our attention that a bug in Firefox 1.5 is causing some issues on SMF forums. The bug causes Firefox to time its javascript functions incorrectly, which in turn results in a page reloading in the background many, many times. It's possible that some hosts may incorrectly flag this as a Denial of Service (DoS) attack due to the ferocity of the calls. If you are having problems with your server, with many calls looking like: "index.php?action=keepalive", then it almost certainly is this Firefox bug - in this case we recommend you following the advanced information included in this post.

To minimize the risk to this happening when viewing an SMF forum, we've created a work around for the bug which should solve this issue. If you are using SMF 1.1 RC1 or RC2 we recommend you simply replace the current script.js file found in your Themes/default directory with the attached file. This does not affect uses running SMF 1.0.5 or lower.

Thanks for that Cyber. We got an email from SMF about this and have the workaround patch.

I'm installing it tomorrow morning so hopefully it will resolve some of the issues we've been seeing.

Thanks again for letting us know.

Thanks Bream.

Hopefully the main problem has now been resolved, but if anyone has any further problems in this respect, please let us know. Our Techies, Bream & Sparks, are excellent, very responsive.

The problem that needed patching related to the source code on the third teir Primary Router which is, as you know, very sensitive to wavelength fluctuations when in beam mode.

:D Nope - I can recognise techno-bullsh*t when I see it TK. I do it for a living.

Once was showing people around a telecom switch (they don't really look like much is going on) - so showed them the clock cards - where at least there's led's going on & off. One pointed at another card & asked why its led's were going at half the speed of the other on... "That's the half speed clock".

The other techy bods nearly choked to death trying not to laugh. My boss didn't find it as funny.

Ok I’m getting terrible load times today.

My normal page load time is between 3/5 secs. Today I cant get a page to load faster than 22 secs.

Anyone else got problems with this ?

On my lappy which isn't running very fast at the moment I'm taking between 2-3 seconds to load today, but yesterday I was taking up to 10 - 11.
