Title: A Problem for iamVerndog
Post by: verndog158 on February 17, 2015, 10:31:43 PM
Apologies i dont have the written HH, as played last night and only posting now

THis is the boom, http://www.boomplayer.com/en/poker-hands/Boom/13056918_828AC7F243 but will type it out too for those who prefer.

This is the third/ fourth level of the daily 81r1a on stars...

We open  Qc  Qd UTG to $180 at 30/60 off $9.3k. UTG + 1 3 bets to $460 playing $6.7k. Folds round we flat. (POT $1064)

Flop  6s  6h  8s We check, Villian bets $545, we call. (POT $2154)

Turn  4c. We check, he bets $1441. We call. (POT $5036)

River  3h. We check, Villain jams for $4396. We fold.

Thoughts here on all streets please? Think im fairly happy with everything maybe until the turn, which could be a fold? Called becuase i think he can 2 barrell some hands we beat, but then check back the river, as we have loads of over pairs in our range. THink this could be meh, and folding turn is right?

What 3 bet range do we put a random on here? This early in the 8 1r1a i could even put it to QQ+ (maybe JJ but i doubt it) and AK/ AQss, what are the thoughts here?

Thanks in advance!!

Yeh tempted to fold the turn, sizing is so strong. Tough to do in game tho, always seem to call, call, decide/usually fold. Range is protected tho as play AA, KK and 88 the same so wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

I would tend to 4 bet this out of position here in most spots pre flop. By flatting, your not folding out hands your ahead of, and minimise your loses when your behind. But at the same time play the hand as a bluff catcher/set mining. To me the hand played like AK suited for a busted flush draw or a flopped house (maybe.... would of checked the flop if he had 88) only hands which shove the river, unless madness creeps in...

I don't know just some thoughts....

I'd call the turn, he could still well have a hand like 10,10, Jacks, I expect the river's getting checked back a good amount of the time.

Wben he fires again on the river, it is looking pretty bad for us

To reiterate, I fold turn, but pre and flop I do the same.

Do we know anything about villain?

I think your calling hand is under repped as you could take off QQ here. I would be perceiving you with Low/mid non set pairs (heroing AK) or draws. With that in mind I can't fold turn. I probably call river but then I play $1 games where being a POW is helpful at times. I mean he has no other river play. He can still have 99-JJ and bluffs. I like chipping up early. Folding is probably best though vs good player.

Think you are right on the turn.  Do you open less UTG?  I know we are early and some 3x then, but if I am sat behind I give a verndog 3x a stronger range and it makes it easy to play AA.  Not saying it is hard to play AA, but it means I can bet bigger on later streets knowing verndog is struggling to fold.

I am bad at hold em now though.

I honestly can't decide between folding turn and telling no one or peeling another off. It seems really close to me.

Might be my favourite line ever.

I know I wouldn't fold turn in game I think people love a double now but are still a little shy when it comes to firing the end. I'd play exactly the same if u folded river make of that what you wish, fwiw readless makes me want call the river more often

 ;carlocitrone; lol

i think folding the river is fine if we presume villain is 3b JJ+AK/AQ, but obvs we are readless so we should be inclined to call more often and presume a much wider 3b range. because of that we should be 4balling more. i'd presume rando utg+1 will be 3b/c too wide.

Turn is close, think i fold in this comp. Don't think enough people will be 3x 3betting utg1, double barrelling worse and giving up river to call. Particularly when his turn sizing sets up river jam... i think most will be doing that to jam value hands by river and probably not thinking about it with bluffs/semi bluffs. QsQx is a clear fold imo. Still think i fold this unless ive been given an excuse not to.

Folding turn when he sizes to setup obvious river jam. Reverse would work too if he hadn't although depends on villains competence.
