Shy poker is going to be as good as any for someone starting out.

1 - 888Poker - They run ads on TV as often as the law will allow and attract a lot of recreationals. Heavy amount of UK, Canadian and Aussie players on there. Software is a bit clunky and constantly opens internet explorer windows, but both low stakes tourneys and cash are soft. VIP program is almost non existant but that shouldn't be a factor if you're not putting in serious volume. 2 - AmericasCardroom - It allows US players and Euros to play together for real money. Basically the dream. Withdrawals are reportedly fast too, direct to bank. Could potentially be smashed by US authorities at any time though so I wouldn't put a big chunk of money on there. Deece software when playing, lobby is awfully slow. 3 - SkyPoker - Play in browser which is something that would attract punters from SkyBet/SkyVegas. Not unusual for a lot of people coming in from a night out deciding to punt chips all over the place. Everything is in Pounds though, so you'll need to deposit more to have 20 buyins for your stake if you're playing cash. 4 - Anything attached to a betting site.
