Title: While I'm at it with silly questions
Post by: RED-DOG on March 29, 2015, 11:54:59 AM
I'm trying to identify a famous piece of classical music. It sounds a bit like the Hamlet cigar one.

The first 7 notes are all the same length (about 2 seconds) and each note is one tone lower than the previous one, the next two notes go up the scale one tone each.

I think the lead instrument is a cello with a piano accompaniment.

Bloody Hell Rich, that's totally brilliant. However did you get that?

Now I just have to work out what advert it's from.

It's used for a ton of stuff, Tom.

Tal hacked my acc obv :)

Seriously though I have loved this piece of music for ages and was determined that whichever lucky girl managed to get me down the aisle would walk down the aisle to that piece of music and Petra did so with 2 violinist's playing in the church when we got married so as soon as I read your post I took an educated guess ;)

...and this homemade amateur video from 2005 has.......18 million views.

Probably best to switch it off when it gets to 44 seconds though, can't see Eso dancing down the aisle to that.

Must have watched the video a good 100 times attempting to learn the whole thing, got the first 30 seconds in about 20 hours of practice.

On electric guitar or cello?

Electric guitar, didn't have all the right effects pedals though so it didn't sound too much like the video does

This is a lovely version by the talented Ed Alleyne Johnson. He's played on a few albums of my favourite band (New Model Army) as well as touring with them back in the late 80s early 90s, and has done several solo albums.  But you're more likely to see him busking in Chester or York than on stage these days.  He made his own 5-string electric violin and it makes a fairly unique sound.

Jump  ahead to 1m 35s in for the start of Pachelbel's Canon.

We played this at our wedding. Love it.
In 1995-6 Coolio sampled it in See You When You Get There.

"I see places, faces..."

I struggle to listen to it now without breaking into a bit of Coolio.
