Title: Was I wrong to fold?
Post by: suzanne on January 29, 2006, 10:58:15 PM
Seeing as I had such a positive responce to my last post I thought I would ask opinions on this hand.

50k freeroll and I didnt quite recover from this hand (but I could have) and I'm wondering did I play it wrong?

In a discussion after the hand Honeyz (our own mystery721) said I cant believe you folded, while another guy on the table said good laydown. The Joker never let on what he had.

If he couldn't believe you folded, then why did he say that he must have a 5.

Confused.

Anyhow, I would have reraised preflop and bet more on the flop.

I don't think I would have layed this hand down in a freeroll. People could be playing any rubbish.

he could have aces, but you can't be sure enough to pass.

Yes bad laydown in my opinion, especially in a freeroll.  It would help if we are given the stack sizes, but you have played the KK too passively.

I would say that the mistake you made was not re-raising pre flop. I know you obviously wante dto get paid but I have learnt a costly lesson lately with trying to slowpair big pocket pairs.

Its possible you could have been outdrawn, but you let the guy into the pot cheap considering you had 2nd best pre-flop hand.

by the looks of the hand history, it seems like he is commenting on the hand 'before' suzanne has folded, and when he isn't involved in it. If thats true, its really bad form.

As for the hand itself, min raises from utg rarely contain a 5, unless it has 2 of em, so you are likely looking at an overpair, and KK deeply dominates all overpairs apart from AA, so you probably should call/go allin.. whatever gets all your chips in the middle.

first of all suzanne i am sorry for bluffing u off a pot when u had a k and i had aj.........as i said at the time u were wrong to fold the hand wirth k k, there was twice as much in the pot than wot u had left.....apparently the guy had 10 10 (so he says) but u really shoulda called. u played a great game tho.....did u see how many times my low pocket pairs all in got counterfitted by 2 overpairs on the board?  3 times in one tourney (2s, 6,s and 8,s)

Yes I know now I should have went allin...I didnt put him on a 5 but as is so frequent in freerolls AA is out there when you put your chips in for KK...I really thought this is what he had.
Hard to say if I would have played it differently in the same position...probably not.
Did he later say he had pk 10's mystery?

PS the call would have put me Allin

suzanne i would of called in an instant the guy raised preflop and continued betting on a low baord which stunk of a pp so really you have to think your kings are good

if he has aces then so be it there are plenty more freerolls out there but as the guy raised preflop the chances of him having a single 5 is remote

Aces v Kings doesn't crop up any more in freeroll than it does in normal comps.

It's just one of those scenarios that occurs at all levels.

agree with ironsides.   I would have been more agressive pre flop but his betting does smack of a pp...as he`s betting on  a board of not much.
i`d have been all in fairly early.
but hey its all a learning curve and freerolls can be a good place to learn.

Definately a re-raise preflop on this one.
