One of the best broadcasters across any sport, imo Was a journalist before he became a cricketer, then re-trained to be a broadcaster. He was brilliant at it too Title: Re: RIP Richie Post by: Tonji on April 10, 2015, 10:11:27 AM Morning everyone
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/cricket/32189688 One of the reasons I loved Test Cricket, now a days not so much. RIP Ritchie. He was the face of my childhood and for millions of others. He was cricket on the TV in England. A true great of broadcasting RIP Title: Re: RIP Richie Post by: Longy on April 10, 2015, 12:33:02 PM Very sad to hear of his passing. He was cricket commentary on TV to me, growing up.
Title: Re: RIP Richie Post by: TightEnd on April 10, 2015, 01:34:08 PM The best-loved lines of Richie Benaud

Absolutely peerless imo RIP Title: Re: RIP Richie Post by: tikay on April 10, 2015, 04:28:39 PM Everything said above.
He is my first memory of cricket, with his clipped tones, head slightly to one side, always immaculately attired in a suit, shirt & tie. No shouty wouty stuff ever, just matter of fact. Every time I hear that calypso Test Match music, I see him in my mind. A credit to TV, cricket & Australia. A tidy cricketer, too, nearly 12,000 runs at an average of 35, & close to 1,000 wickets @ an average of 24. He never shouted, or got excited, always softy wofty, & understated, very much in the style of Henry Longhurst. "...and Glenn McGrath dismissed for 2 runs, just 98 short of his century" "...he's not quite got hold of that one, it's a six, but if he had, it would have gone for nine" Most of the broadsheets carry fulsome Obits of the great man today. Title: Re: RIP Richie Post by: TightEnd on April 11, 2015, 01:23:26 PM a must read for fans with some great stories
