Title: Thoughts on turn and river play here.
Post by: baldock92 on April 12, 2015, 01:53:14 AM
I played a hand a day or two ago which I keep thinking about from the ukipt mini.

The situation: blinds are at 800/1600/200, I'm sat on around 55k.

From mid position I raise J8cc to 3600 (could have folded pre but I'm a sucker for suited connecting cards). Late position calls, and the big blind defends. The big blind has about 80k and I've played with them a few times before, and see them as a relatively good player for the format.

Flop: K85r. I c-bet 5200, late position folds and the big blind calls.

Turn: 8. BB checks. I check behind to try and trap hands such as KJ-K9 and perhaps get some bluffs to fire on the river, but looking back I don't like the check behind.

River: 4. BB bets 9-10k ish. I make it 25k. He calls.

Can I get your opinions on the turn check and the river raise?

Thanks

Any idea as to how you think villain might perceive you?

As you've identified yourself pre feels a bit too loose. You're not sat very deep for postflop maneuverability and the BB is a good player - so not a good target for a steal. Also being MP with a few players left to act sucks too, so i don't think you should be opening quite that wide in this spot.

I would bet turn, because any 8 our opponent holds is likely going to be < than our 8, and people just won't usually fold strongish pairs on this turn either.

You don't really rep any bluffs raising this river the way it's played out. Think this hand plays way easier with a turn bet basically.

I think going small ish turn and large river seems good, maybe like 4500 turn and 20k river.

I think I'm perceived as quite a TAG player, and I recall playing him in the past where I raised pre with a big ace that missed the flop, cbet flop and shut down after he called and folded the river. I think this definitely played on my mind because I thought he'd fire river quite light, hence why I checked the turn. I still think I should have bet about 10k turn with the plan to shove river.

Would still appreciate thoughts on the overall play from others

Thoughts on checking back flop?

Thoughts on checking back flop?

I prefered betting to get at least 1 and maybe both players to fold, rather than it checking round and seeing a shitty turn card like an A, Q or 10.

bet turn bet river. He ain't gonna fold a King on the turn and might well still call river so why not build the pot and get the chance of 3 streets. Also you are more likely to be bluffing with b/b/b line than the line you took which looks pretty f strong.
