Title: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: mikeymike on April 28, 2015, 07:22:28 PM IMO -
The best casino i have been to for food is in Cadiz - in southern spain - great food - great staff and a generally good vibe - imo better than Barcelona. Cant remember the name but the casino round the corner from the Bristol hotel in Vienna also had a great vibe. The casion in Montreal i thought was pretty rubbish and without doubt the worst casino i have been to was on the Australian Gold Coast - the carpets were swimming in beer and the whole place stank - walked in - walked round - walked out. Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: arbboy on April 28, 2015, 07:26:23 PM Worse casino I have ever been in and it is not even close was annabells in Leicester. Was privately owned in the 1990s til they sold out to Stanley's. I was a reg in the mid/late 1990s during my uni degen days and It was a great gambling den full of proper old school bundles of cash type punters but the standard of service and cleanliness was shocking beyond belief. Willie Thorne was a bit of a reg in those days as well. In a back street in Leicester. No Idea if the place still exists. I would imagine it doesn't. Stanley's never spent a penny on it to improve it when they bought it and I would imagine genting just closed it when they bought Stanley a few years ago.
Any other blondes ever frequent the gaff back in the day? No poker back then just a spit and sawdust punting den. Full of proper casino characters who have probably been on Jeremy Kyle over the past ten years. Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: Marky147 on April 28, 2015, 07:31:05 PM Lots of great food in Vegas casinos.
In the UK, I think that the Sheffield Genting has some excellent food. It's closed down now thoughts on the gaff? Was there ever poker in there? I only went in there way before I ever played poker. There was an upstairs room but never had any idea hat happened upstairs. My fav character from annabells was a heavily tattooed guy balding with a ginger ponytail who looked dodgy as fuck. Went by the name of clem. Proper local with a thick Leicester accent. Total addicted degen. Assume he must still be around the Leicester casino scene? Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: George2Loose on April 28, 2015, 11:34:27 PM They ran poker briefly but not for long. Gala always had the biggest presence in Leicester (now Grosvenor)
Ha I know Clem- no ponytail but doesn't seem dodgy at all. Plays the odd bowl comp and the machines mainly Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: Longines on April 28, 2015, 11:39:52 PM Probably around 12/13 years ago after getting into Late Night Poker and playing on Laddies I looked around for somewhere to try my hand at live poker and as Annabelles was not too far away I ended up there.
Poker was playing in a tiny room right up in the loft - all self dealt and dodgy as **** with degens putting their names down to deal the cash table in exchange for tips. It shut a few years ago, all boarded up now. Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: Longines on April 28, 2015, 11:41:15 PM Worst casino food - Broadway.

Plays the odd bowl comp and the machines mainly He might not be now but circa 1997 he was always up to no good and tried to convince everyone in annabells he had a system for roulette even though every night he never had a pot to piss in. Loads of stories every night about how unlucky he was in the bookies as well. Comcical looking back. Clem must be a flip to have appeared on Jeremy Kyle in the last ten years. He would fit so many story lines on that show! Another annabells legend was rocky the ex boxer bouncer on the door. Is he still lurking around the leics casino scene? He just used to sit on an empty table every night reading A news paper. Can't quite imagine casino security being allowed to do that in 2015. Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: Marky147 on April 28, 2015, 11:48:29 PM Worst casino food - Broadway. Food in the restaurant was good, but they couldn't work out which order to bring stuff in :D Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: George2Loose on April 28, 2015, 11:53:27 PM Not seen a Rocky about in Leicester. Sure some of the old characters reside there tho

Played a round of golf with him a couple years ago, Not really a dodgy character no more, he still wears the umbro tracksuits of yesteryear looking about 50/60yrs. He plays golf regularly now, solid 18 or so handicap. He shares the (not really a bad beat) bad beat stories allllll the time. Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: The Camel on April 29, 2015, 05:32:21 PM Worst casino food is (well it was last time I was there 8 odd years ago) Walsall Grovesnor.
Wouldn't give that stuff to my dog. Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: The Camel on April 29, 2015, 05:33:19 PM Aviation Club (sadly closed now) was by far the best restaurant.
Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: arbboy on April 29, 2015, 05:36:26 PM Of the chain casinos in the uk G casino def has the worse food by a mile. Never understand why they don't do anything about their menu. Genting is miles better but still not that good. DTD food better than both imo.

Wouldn't give that stuff to my dog. My parents have a fillet steak there every Thursday evening. The food there now is really quite good. Not exceptional but good. The fillet steaks I would say are excellent. Title: Re: Good Casinos - Bad Casinos for the food and ambience Post by: Ransom on April 29, 2015, 11:04:51 PM Think G Luton was very good last time I ate there As a general rule most food is casinos is crap G Luton is pretty solid, the casinos with a restaurant in the them are going to fare better than ones without I'd wager. Though I exist on burgers and chips in the G, and it's kind of hard to cock that up. Or maybe they've pulled their socks up!
