No, never.

I would not have recognized hardly of those people, to be honest, outside of Donald Trump & the 2 boxers.

It's a very strange fixation, wanting a selfie with a celeb, don't you think?

Yeah, got drunk at the cricket last year and caught a few of the England cricket team on their way out to their cars lol. Would never normally do that.

Yeah I hate it. Taking pictures of famous people is ok. That's always been ok. The new generation want to grab attention and say "Look at me with this famous person"

Got one with Lanky the Giraffe, the Lancs CC mascot, when I went to the Test Match at Old Trafford last Summer.

Doubt this will be beaten.

I once asked Red-Dog to take a picture of us together a few years back when we were both missing our front teeth by some strange coincidence.

I don't know if he had his thumb over the lens or if his phone took a dislike to me but for some reason the photo didn't come out which was a shame really as it could have been a classic.

I have a general dislike of selfies in general - but to be fair it might well be that you make a more pertinent point. If you meet a well known person you admire and have the chance of exchanging a few words with them - it's probably not unreasonable to like the idea of a photo of the two of you together to remind you of the event in future.

The problem is as you've suggested, the main reason for taking the selfie (with or without a celebrity) for most people seems to be  to basically say, "look at me!!!" - it's the intent that I find so annoying rather than the act itself.

I've had a photo taken of me with Terry Pratchett and my girlfriend has had a selfie with Taylor Swift in the past for the former reason - I think even that is a little uncomfortable in my head, in future I'm planning on definitely staying behind the lens only.

Obv I like the idea of selfies. I think they make for great memories.

I take your points on board, but what is the difference between a photo that says "Look at Me" and a post that says "Look at my opinion"?

Just think it's a bit rude going up to someone you don't know and asking for them to pose for a picture with you.

Nearest I ever came to doing it:

A friend has this strange "thing" about Shane Warne. At mere mention of his name her whole body starts quivering.

At the Aussie Millions a few years ago I had the fortune of sitting next to Warne in a tournament. My Floppy was doing the upsdates, so I asked him to take a picture of in action, merely so I could make Rebecca puce with envy I was situated that close to her muse for 4 hours..

The short retuned one is . . .

Not the one displaying fine dress sense . . .

Ahhh I see the issue, I believe the yellow gentleman in red boots is the boxer, I expected him to be slimmer at Welterweight.

Only ever done it once. In the Wynn in Vegas 2012 with nba superstar Kevin Durant.  He is 7 foot tall and he just grabbed the iPad and stuck it out miles in front of us all with his long arms and did the business.  Very friendly guy after we told him we were English. Didn't seem to have too much time for the yanks asking for the same.

Isn't the posting equivalent what a lot of 'trolls' do?

Obviously some peoples opinions might almost objectively be valued as almost worthless but the basic answer would be 'depth' (imo).

Even if people have 'bad' or 'wrong' opinions they still have value and the act of discussing and debating them is a worthwhile exercise in itself.

And I was DESPERATE to get a photo of him (not with him, just "of him").

I felt I could not ask though, it seemed so rude, & intrusive.

So, instead, I sort of took a sneaky photo, without him knowing.

And, in a way, that seemed even more rude somehow.

But photos of the person alone mean nothing?

If IanGas just posted loads of pictures of celebrities we'd think that was a bit odd, he could have just googled them, the pictures mean nothing. However when we see him standing next to David Beckham, Jess Ennis etc, it's a "wow you met x, awesome" reaction rather than "oh look thats a picture of x".

If I met a famous person I'd definitely ask them for a selfie, and I'm not ashamed to admit that!

This is my best effort, which is pretty poor.

That was my point - if I take a photo of someone famous I admire, I do it for me. I don't do it because I want other people to admire the photo, only because I admire the person.

And I know I took the photo - I don't care what other people think.

Think the only people who should really care, are the ones who are getting asked by members of the public.

If they're happy to have one taken, they will, and if they aren't, they won't.

Met a few celebs the first 3/4 times I went to Vegas, and when I was living in London. I would probably have gotten pics if I had a camera, but selfies weren't really all the rage when I had a Nokia 8800 :D

That's not correct, Mr Alex.

I was not dining alone, & the photo means a lot to my fellow (?) diner & I, as it brings back private & special memories.

You can ask me what I had for Main Course if you wish. South of France, summer's day, cloudless sky, wonderful ambience, & I ordered......

I put the art of posting selfies on the internet in the the same category as people posting on facebook what he/she has had for breakfast/a cup of tea/a beer etc.

Most selfies don't involve a conversation, just a "can I take a selfie with you". Whoopdee doo.

Very shortly after the announcement of their engagement I saw Victoria Coren Mitchell at DTD, with David Mitchell alongside her. I walked past them at the start of a break, got about ten paces away and thought "sod it", so I walked back and congratulated them on their engagement. They were, as you would expect, perfectly lovely about it and having wished them luck I walked away.

Again, I got ten paces away and thought "sod it" again.

I returned sheepishly and these are the only two photos with celebs I have ever featured in.

They were, and remain, two of my favourite celebrities. Funny, erudite and charming.

Great photos David.

Funny you should bring up Victoria and David, because the nearest I have come to understanding the life of a celebrity was spending an afternoon/evening with them.

I had gone up to Edinburgh for a UKIPT and unfortunately busted out on day 1. Vicky was playing too and she suffered the same fate.

At the time the Edinburgh UKIPT was on in August at the same time as the Festival.

Victoria bought a bunch of tickets to various shows and asked if I wanted to tag along.

We went to 4 shows over 5 hours, but the festival being the festival you have A LOT of speed walking between venues to get to a show in time.

I felt genuine pity for David Mitchell. He probably wasn't quite as famous as he is now, but I suppose that was countered by the fact an Edinburgh Festival crowd would just about 100% know him.

He literally didn't have a minute spare pass without someone asking for a photo, an autograph or a handshake.

At the bar having a pint, walking between venues, queing up to get into a show, at dinner, etc etc and etc

It never stopped. I estimate at least 200 people wanted a few seconds of his time.

And he obliged every single time, except once.

We had precisely 2 minutes to get from one venue to another to catch the start of a show.

David was terribly polite and apologetic to these two women who wanted a photo. But they probably still think to this day "What a stuck up bloke that Davoid Mitchell is, not giving us 15 seconds for a photo".

I wouldn't want to be famous for all the tea in China.

Jimmy was probably a bit upset that he looked so scruffy for his one chance of having a picture taken with Greek Stein.

Cos had said to Jimmy 3 seconds before the photo was taken..

"Jimmy, if you wrk REALLY hard after giving up your playing career, do all your FA badges, learn from some of the best managers in Europe and suck up to all the right people. Then maybe, just maybe, you'll be manager of Burton Albion one day

"No promises though. You have to work hard to fulfill your dream son"

I was very disappointed with this encouter.

I don't recall ever asking a celebrity for a selfie before other than trolling some poker players.

However, I had a season ticket at Chelsea when Jimmy played for us. I cheered for that mofo and he was definitely treated very well by the Chelsea fans.

It was the afternoon and it was a Vegas hallway of some casino. I approached him very politely and excitedly explaining that I was a huge Chelsea fan and even though he agreed to the photo it was with this sulky demeanour and I wish I had just walked off.

A lot of the fault there lies with me. What if he'd just done his bollocks in the casino? What if he wasn't feeling well? Why do I still feel to this day that he owed me, as a Chelsea fan a better photo than that. One where he said 'sure buddy' and then smiled.

I would also hate to be famous.

It was a bit of a pisstake on Aunty Sues part to be honest.  We were leaving a West end show when someone said she had been in the audience and was sneaking out the side door,  so the younger girls we were with went rushing around there hoping to get a glimpse.  When we got to them it was absolutely ridic, there must of been 200 people screaming and tearing and then the paps turned up on mopeds and literally mounted the pavement and drove into the scrum to get a photo.
Aunt Susie thought it was a hilarious idea to suddenly run into the mêlée and plant a smacker on poor old Chezza.  She was very nice about it though, she even called Susie 'pet' All the kids were livid!
Another version of our pic ended up on front of the Metro the next morning,  much to our amusement.

The world has officially gone mad. Every part of that story is bonkers.

You get a point back for mêlée, but that's all you are getting.

That point will need to be handed in on reception, however, if the West End Show was Mama Mia.

I enjoy having photos with celebrities who i have met over the years. Like someone said earlier its mostly for the memories which I can look at down the years. Taking photos on the sly seems far more intrusive to me .
I was fortunate to have backstage passes for last years Rolling Stomes concert in Macau and got to meet Ronnie Wood & Charlie Watts. It was great to capture the special moment in a photo.
I would post them but dont know how?

Try that.

Ahh, you have got me there, someone else may need to help.

I know you can use a site such as photobucket, just copy them from your Photo file.

We may need help from someone here, it's the blind leading the blind.

This is one of mine, which I have saved on photobucket, & then just pressed "IMG" on the right hand panel & C & P the url here.

Yes Craig. you either have to reduce the size of your photo so that blonde will accept it on the add image button or upload or to a host site.

I am genuinely tickled by your response to my story Mr Tal, but I'm not quite sure what provoked your outrage.
Was it my admittedly terrible retelling of the tale? Or maybe the slightly disrespectful handling of the delectable Mrs Fernandez Versini got your goat?
Also, even though a point from your good self is akin to a Pulitzer prize for the likes of me, my integrity demands I risk losing it by admitting we were there to see Shrek.  rotflmfao ;hide;
