Title: talk MNF up
Post by: Tal on May 18, 2015, 03:49:41 PM
You are head of PR for Sky Sports' Premier League coverage (congratulations, by the way. Card is in the post)

Chelsea and West Brom play tonight. Chelsea have won the league at a canter. West Brom are safe. The managers don't mind each other. There's no significant player returning to an old club. Several names will be given the evening off. The result doesn't really affect anything. Neither side plays particularly pleasant football.

Now, sell the game to me, or footie fans up and down the country will be switching over to watch this:

Just a thought that it might have been deliberate by the Premier league HQ to not give any teams with anything to play for the advantage of knowing what they had to do by going last on the 2nd last weekend of the season (everyone obviously kicks off the last game of season at the same time but there is just as big an edge in the 2nd last weekend for a lot of the stuff up for grabs as most will be over by the last weekend).  I remember Sunderland's gaffer kicking off about this last week about certain teams having this advantage.  Playing 2 teams with nothing to play for last on a Monday night definitely stops this happening and i think it is good for the integrity of the league if that is why they have chosen to do it.

For example all the teams involved in the relegation battle kicked off on Saturday and all the teams involved in the top 4 spots were on Sunday.

They will spin it as:

"Welcome to Stamford Bridge as we salute the premier league champions, and get a glipse of the future of Chelsea football club.   These young men hold the club's future very much in their hands"

Cue clips of Solanke, Loftus-Cheek and Brown to that song that has the lyric "teenage kicks all through the night"

We'll then get to the match and one will get 45 mins, one will get 10 mins and the other will be an unused substitute.

Job done.   Where's my fee?

2 teams relaxed with no pressure to win, should allow for free flowing football.
Good atomsphere at the crowd so should come across on the TV.
Football is the best unrehearsed entertainment going - so you just never know what is going to happen!!

Have you checked the two managers of the teams involved?

Confirmed that free flowing football will not be present.
