there's a bird that lives in my garden. it's about the size of a magpie, is brown, but has a small patch of black and white stripes on it. what is it? googling 'that black white and brown bird' hasn't helped.

next question. outside of my balcony, there are regularly 50-100 bees swarming round what can only be described as 'a large window pot filled with sand/earth'.

why?
