Ouch

BBC dealt blow after losing control of TV rights for Olympics.

Discovery, owner of Eurosport, signs £920m deal from 2022 onwards
BBC can still sub-license rights but will no longer be home of Olympics

Isn't it one of those "crown jewels" like Wimbledon?

Not good news but at least "Unless existing legislation changes, Discovery will still have to broadcast the entire Winter and Summer Games free to air."

It's a shame, I doubt the PPV channels get a fraction of the figures the BBC would get.  Going to suck having to put up with adverts during the broadcasts.

I can't decide if this makes a good argument for or against the license fee.

Yeah eurosport will have to make it free to air.

Probably by sub licensing to BBC

Not really, I think you have to have a sports subscription package to get it.  It's not on Freeview.

Oh I thought it was free to air on sky but I have always had sky sports so always had it.
I wonder if they will be able to run 24+ channels so we get to see every minute of every sport

Must be a recent change then. I always got Eurosport when I didn't have a sky subscription
