Title: Stupidly noob questions
Post by: Cf on July 25, 2015, 10:22:42 AM
I haven't played poker in over a year but am in Nottingham this weekend (for the blonde bash :() so me and the gf fancy a trip to DTD.

How does this XXL £25 work then. It seems to have reloads and re-entries? Do you just reload when we you want despite your chip stack? Re-enter when you bust?

Also I vaguely recall reading about a turn clock Where you have to act within X seconds or something. Not a problem for me but is it likely to be intimidating to the gf who doesn't play often?

Is it the bash this weekend? Is it a secret bash or have I missed something?.

I've played an XXL a couple of weeks ago, it played as a 2 rebuy with no minimum stack restriction, some players were sitting down with 75k straight off.

There was a clock, I'm usually one of the quickest to act at a table and still managed to get it called on me once. Each player gets one timebank chip which gives you one more minute (I think).

When you bust you can re-enter up until the end of the first break (usually the end of level 5) so you'll have the best part of 2 hours before entry closes.

And yes, you get a maximum of 20 seconds to make your decision, the dealer will count you down for the last 5-10 seconds or so- plenty of time per decision. You also get 1 time extension if you require it, giving you an additional minute, by tossing the card into the middle. If you make the final table I think you get another.

Hope this helps.

Just lost interest in the game a bit I suppose. Not really a cash player and not a fan of how tournaments have gone these days with throwing loads of chips and rebuys and re-entries at you. In a sense the £25 tonight is the definition of what I don't like about tournament poker although I accept I am probably in the minority. I miss the old £50/4,000/24 and £75/5,000/30 freeze outs.

Add onto that general work being busy and not wanting to play poker until 3am and I don't really play much anymore :(

You're not alone, I much prefer a freezeout to someone who can rebuy/ reenter a ridiculous amount of times before the late entry period closes. Gives it more of a thrill.

Pretty much sums up why I don't play any more.

Oh and the fact I'm shit doesn't help too much.

I was beginning to think I was out of step overt these issues, it's reassuring to know I'm not.

Despite my misgivings about the format I am enjoying my first game at DTD since according to the desk 2012 :)

Could be worthy of a "funk for Cf" thread. Winning an xxl > Winning a stupid bracelet in Vegas.

Haha. Just doubled with AJ AIPF against AK. Undoes the hand that halved me.

Feels very odd having this many chips so early.

I busted the hand after the bubble :(

Structure felt very naff. The usual too many chips early doors and no-one getting knocked out and then 20 minute blinds catching up scenario that i dislike.

The structure normally brings a few complaints, but to be fair for a £30 buy in with £3k up top in one night I think there's no room to moan. Just my opinion.

Average spend on Saturday was £62, doubtful many people managed to cash without taking at least one reload.
Potential spend is £80, twice...

DTD are stuck trying to please people who want to play for £10, to people who want to play for £100. They could run separate comps, but they would rather run one big comp and have a decent guarantee. So this is what they choose to do, and it seems fair enough to me.
