In the very first level of $33 Omania everyone has ~ 3k starting stack 10/20.

UTG opens to 40 I peel in MP with 4d, 4h, 5d, 5h, as do a couple of others and we see this flop:

Jh, 4c, 3c.

UTG bets 96 and I decide to peel, folded to LP who makes it ~400.

UTG now bets the full pot and it's back to me...

I made what I considered to be a pretty easy fold this early in the tourney but the other two guys got their stacks in.

What do we think they had?

Flushy wrap draws and two pairs? Early stages of Omania can be comedy

I think iv played the omania twice in my life but I saw enough in those two times to know Im not going to fold here.

I MIGHT talk myself into folding 333, but I doubt it.

I'm absolutely not folding here.

Sure sometimes we're behind but in the early levels of a $33 BI we just can't fold middle set on a draw heavy board with no info on opponents.

Here are some of the sorts of hands I'd expect to see that we crush:

AQJ3
AA + gutshot
KK + gutshots/open enders
QQ56 etc
567 no flush draw
double paired hands that include 33
AQJ10 type hands

Here are some hands we are doing well against that get it in:

AA/KK/QQ+clubs
wrap
wrap+fd
random jacks up+ clubs

Basically so many hands I expect to see in early levels from people who don't have too much PLO experience or people who just looking for some kinda equity to gamble up a stack (and are happy to spew to do it) that we shouldn't be folding.

My answer wouldn't change if they showed up with AA4x+clubs and JJ55.

I think the fact that the $33 Omania tourney was the only one I was playing last evening made a difference to my decision, as I'm sure if I had been grinding several tournies it's a lot easier to get my chips in there.

Not saying that I made the right call, just that I enjoy playing that tourney and there was nothing much on telly so I really didn't want to exit during level one.


UTG had  Ah, Jd, 9d, 3c !!! for top and bottom pair and no discernable draw.


Button had As, 6c, 5c, 5s for the up and down SFD and he ended up making a 6-high Str. which won the hand and which I would have chopped with him had I not folded.

I ended up 245/295 which appears to have been my just desert.  

against 1 other player yeah i can see the call but against 2 players its a fold

you should be facing flush draws wraps or atleast open ended straight draw and possibly 2 pair
or top set are we really wanting to put our chips in this early when we are likely be drawing for 2 blanks

If we are up against Acxcxx and 5c6cxx we are about 50% which is fine.  How often would we see top set though?  If its 20% of the time, we get roughly 42% equity, I think (50% of 80% plus 10% of 20%).  If its 40% of the time, I think we are still about 34% equity.  So I suppose just considering draws vs top set, it has to be almost as likely that the set is there to make calling bad.  (Ignoring all the other mad shit that might be getting it in)

If Ralph had raised and been 3 and 4 bet by the time it got back to him, would this still be a call?  I would have thought the chance of JJxx being there would be much higher with that action.

Well funnily enough I used to have way better results playing the $10 unlimited rebuy tournies on FTP until they fizzled out a couple of years ago.

Had to nit up considerably to make the adjustment to these $33 freezeouts.
