Title: This story flabbergasts me. Post by: RED-DOG on September 05, 2015, 09:46:36 AM Why not sack the clerk and appoint a replacement after throwing her in jail?
How can she be the only one with the authority to sign? http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-34155775 Title: Re: This story flabbergasts me. Title: Re: This story flabbergasts me. Post by: RED-DOG on September 06, 2015, 10:41:22 PM This is why Church and State should be separated. That gets my vote. Americans are a bit fanatical when it comes to religion though. Title: Re: This story flabbergasts me. Post by: Jon MW on September 07, 2015, 01:17:23 AM We're in the States at the moment so we've seen quite a lot of coverage at the moment of this story. But it wasn't until I read the BBC article that I realised that she couldn't be sacked because she was elected.
It might have seemed like a good idea but surely they must have realised at some point that making almost every public position elected is a terrible idea(?) Title: Re: This story flabbergasts me. Post by: RED-DOG on September 09, 2015, 08:38:29 AM The circus surrounding this silly mare rolls on. I shudder to think how much time and money has been wasted. It's religion gone mad.

It's not certain, but it's probably an amalgamation of two adjectives in the 18th Century: flabby (wobbly and shaking) and aghast (shocked). Title: Re: This story flabbergasts me. As an aside, I couldn't help but laugh at this fella (right, presumably the husband) not conforming to the redneck stereotype at all. Title: Re: This story flabbergasts me. Post by: RED-DOG on September 09, 2015, 06:38:31 PM Dang!
Title: Re: This story flabbergasts me. Post by: Jon MW on September 09, 2015, 06:41:35 PM Footage of them arriving at court showed the husband with a gun sticking out of his trousers, they have an "interesting" idea of what makes a good Christian.

I wouldn't have recognised Mr Drysdale without the moustache, but Miss Hathaway, Granny and Jethro haven't changed a bit. Title: Re: This story flabbergasts me. Like she's won a great victory by stopping people from marrying and sticking her fingers up to the law. I thought that according the her religion God was supposed to do the judging. |
