Title: Choices
Post by: RED-DOG on September 13, 2015, 07:53:40 AM
My immediate ones are,

Get up or stay in bed.

Porridge or eggs on toast.

Go for a walk around the car boot or stay in and read my latest book.

Car boot

Enjoy your day Tom

Lolled more than necessary at this.

Car boot, that book just gets annoying after a while.  Suspect it is marmite, as I know others who thought it was good.  A better annoying book about philosophy is Tibor Fischer's The Thought Gang.  One of my favourites, but sure others would hate the smart arse author.  The fact a few lined up to criticise catch 22 a few months ago makes me suspect some will swing towards the latter with The Thought Gang.

Hope you have a good Sunday.

What's the best thing you ever got at a car boot?

I have mates who have made some massive finds, but other than a half decent guitar I got for a fiver, it's always just dandy albums and such by the time I get there.

Well I took your advice and went to the car boot. I am enjoying Sophie's World though, I read all my books on Kindle these days and I love it because I can sample the first couple of chapters before I actually buy it. As a consequence, I now buy very few books that I don't like.

Philosophy is a big stretch for a brain like mine, so Sophie's World is a nice gentle introduction.

I will check out Tibor Fischer's The Thought Gang though. Thanks for the recommendation.

I've never found anything that's made hundreds of pounds of profit Barry, but I usually go when I want something in particular and if I find it, (which happens surprisingly often) I expect to buy it for about 5% of its original retail price.

For example. A couple of weeks ago I decided I didn't like my nylon motorcycle jacket and would rather have a leather one. I got a great one for £4.

Our local car boot is massive though. It's a real experience just to have a walk around.

I tried to take a pic to give you an idea of the scale, but where ever I stand I can't get it all in.

I like meeting the people too. Car booters are often interesting characters.

Check out this old dude with his pickup, his Mrs and his dog.

We've just had a farmers market where I live. Just had a bit of lemon drizzle cake.

Pretty good day all in all

I Love farmers markets.

My good friend and ally Dave the JCB man is having a farm sale in October. (I wrote about how he helped me when first came here somewhere on blonde, but I can't find it).

Anyway, I was so touched by his attitude towards me and my family that I told him that if ever he needed anything, he should come and ask me. Well 15 years later, he called in his marker.

He's 78 now and in very poor health. He can still operate his machienery but he can barely walk. Most manual work is beyond him. So, after working from the same yard for over 50 years, he's selling up.

He needed me to empty his sheds, clear his land and organise everything into 'Lots' ready for the auction. He has son-in-laws that could have helped, but, he told me, "They're all academic types. Great lads, but too clever for this kind if work".

'This kind of work' consisted of unbolting implements from tractors and bogey axles from trailers, sorting tools, cutting up scrap iron with acetylene cutters etc.

I've done about 5 half days with him now, and there are probably as many left before were finished. The work is going slowly. Mostly because every time I pick something up, Dave wants to tell me a story about it, and 50 years worth is an awful lot of stories.
