Title: Tonight's TV highlight is........
Post by: tikay on September 17, 2015, 08:25:59 PM

Thursday 17th September

For me, has to be Ian Hislop's "Age of the Do-Gooders". (8pm BBC Four).

A previous edition, "The Beeching Years" was very good indeed, & Hislop comes across well when he wears his serious head & silly red scarf.

Think it's a repeat from a few years back, but highly recommended. By me.

There's a clip here....

What's your highlight tonight? In addition to Do-Gooders, obv.

He was on the Joe Rogan podcast earlier this year. Very good guest.

Just found out he played keyboards in D:Ream.

Definitely the coolest smileyest prof I've ever seen.

Well, cept Prof Alice Roberts of course.

I bet she could teach me a thing or two.

The cherubic Professor Cox is bright, cheery, always smiley, & immensely pleasant. And I cannot stand him. I have to switch over the moment I see him,. It's completely & utterly illogical, and I can't explain it, but I just can't watch his stuff.  He seems a bit creepy to me.

He does have one redeeming feature though - he's the very spit of Jonny Greenwood. Genuine creep.

Friday 18th September

Rugby World Cup, opening ceremony, & England v Fiji.

Even for non-rugby union fans, this is a must.

All evening, ITV.

Real men, no holds barred.

Saturday 19th September

Ton of good stuff today, including Singapore F1 GP Qualifying, (Sky Sports, 1pm) & Rugby World Cup (2 games, ITV), including a feisty affair tonight between France & Italy @ 8pm this evening from Twickers.

My highlights though are.....

"Classic Albums", on Sky Arts. This is a fabulous series, & tonight it looks at the making of Elton John's wonderful "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road", which helped make him one of the highest earners ever in entertainment.  8pm, Sky Arts.

Nicely followed @ 9pm by Elton John's "Million Dollar Piano". A repeat, but well worth a watch, Elton - & the other contributors - are remarkably revealing in their comments. Much of it is filmed in his USA home (which is rather nice) & at Caesars Palace.

Finally - geeks only (Tom will watch this, the saddo)...

The Golden Age of Trams, (8pm, BBC Four).

Tal & Chompy might be our only Members who appreciated this, but on BBC Four this evening......

Len Goodman, the head judge of Strictly Come Dancing, takes to the dance floor to discover the golden age of ballroom and recalls the time when Britain went ballroom barmy.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

The Mad World of Donald Trump - C4 9.00pm
Presented by terrestrial's TV's perhaps most palatable political correspondent (Matt Frei), I'm trusting that this will be a relatively balanced piece of broadcast journalism. However, what isn't in doubt is the very real threat that one of the most powerful nations on earth is going to be in the hands of a nationalist racist by the end of the year. The Democrat option isn't very appealing either, but the thought of Trump in power makes me.... shit myself!

A celebrity reality TV show?

Are they botafogoing in sequins? Throwaway-overswaying in tails and ballgowns?

No? Then I shall be watching the football.

She made some rather nice half time pies with a football motif crust, but I don't recall any botafogoing, whatever that may be.
