Title: Re: Favourite advert Post by: tikay on September 23, 2015, 09:19:35 AM The Honda "Cog" It was aired just 10 times, it cost £1 million to make, & resulted in an extra £400 million of business. The little bit of commentary at the end - "isn't it nice when things just work?" is by Garrison Keillor, he of "Lake Wobegon". If you ever fancy reading a wonderfully quirky book, try "Lake Wobegon Days". https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cog_(advertisement) YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bl2U1p3fVRk Title: Re: Favourite advert Post by: Claw75 on September 23, 2015, 01:24:26 PM It was aired just 10 times In the absence of my hubby i'm gonna call BS on that - I remember seeing it several times and I don't watch a great deal of telly! Title: Re: Favourite advert Post by: TightEnd on September 23, 2015, 01:35:40 PM what are the thoughts on this one?

Sorry Aunty Claire, but you don't have the accreditation to call BS, that is reserved for Gatters. Tell him to blame Wiki, anyway. The high cost of 120-second slots in televised commercial breaks meant that the full version of "Cog" was broadcast only a handful of times The full 120-second version of the advertisement aired only 10 times in all Actually, "the full 120 second version" is probably the key phrase, I expect we saw bits of it. Title: Re: Favourite advert Post by: tikay on September 23, 2015, 01:46:04 PM Ahh, here we go...... The full version was then put aside in favour of a 60-second and five 30-second variations, which continued to air for a further six weeks Title: Re: Favourite advert Post by: DMorgan on September 23, 2015, 01:47:20 PM This one is irritatingly catchy

Might just be the worst advert ever, along with the Premier Inn one, with Lenny Henry. Ugh @ budget hotel ads. Title: Re: Favourite advert Post by: DMorgan on September 23, 2015, 02:05:02 PM Its bad in that it isn't going to make me any more likely to stay at a Travelodge, at least to my conscious mind :D
Worst advert every has to be the old cigarette one that screamed that you'd be alone forever and resulted in plummeting sales YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjBHUQEiTPw Title: Re: Favourite advert Post by: Nakor on September 23, 2015, 02:40:02 PM what are the thoughts on this one? memorable? irritating? good or bad? YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93h_Ug4hLq8 Successful I would say in that it must be the most talked about advert for some time, and obviously has driven a lot of brand awareness. Would love to know if that has been matched in sales uptake. I personally quite like it, but know I am in a minority. Working for a company that is about to go back on TV after a long break I am fascinated by the cost of making and showing adverts, those employed to storyboard said advert and how you quantify the success of said advert. It all seems like money for old rope to me. Title: Re: Favourite advert Post by: Eso Kral on September 23, 2015, 02:58:19 PM Probably in my top 10

You probably won't know this one, but it was absolutely huge in Ireland. Probably the most popular ever. It's a fairly rubbish advert, but it was the talk of the country for a long time purely because of the two seconds featuring Sally O'Brien (and the way she might look at you). Apart from being attractive, she just seemed such a typically representative Irish colleen. It was quite a shock when the news broke, after a few weeks, that she was actually an English actress. It wasn't long before she was brought back to Ireland to appear on the Late Late Show and we were shocked again to hear this definitive Irish-looking girl speaking with an English accent. Not long after, we heard she was going to be in a new sitcom on the telly, and that again she wouldn't be playing an English role, but this time she would be French. I like to think that she only got the part in 'Allo 'Allo because of her previous international experience. Sally O'Brien, played by Vicki Michelle: YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUzclVrZIwk That look she gives is still a killer. |
