Title: Football villians
Post by: TightEnd on September 24, 2015, 11:49:25 AM
Players you could not or can't stand and tell us why please

maybe they play for a big rival, or did your team up like a kipper once. maybe you just can't stand their style of play

you may also include commentators or pundits

from the obvious

to the even more obvious

to the obscure

lets be having them

Thank the Lord, I really thought it was only me that couldn't start Garth Crooks. Cannot watch him.

Merse is pretty dreadful and he can't even speak the language.

I liked him as a player, but Steve Claridge cracks me up as a pundit.   Here is one of his recent first half timelines from a few weeks ago.

19:59 "Wolves have been a bit huff and puff. No real plan or execution. QPR look slicker - there's more of a plan to what they are doing"
20:02 WOLVES 1 QPR 0
20:09 WOLVES 2 QPR 0
20:21 "It's nice but there is no real cutting edge to what QPR are doing. Austin is up front on his own. They just don't look a threat"
20:23 WOLVES 2 QPR 1
Full time:  WOLVES 2 QPR 3

:)

Steve claridge super nap as well

Had the misfortune to listen to him on 5 live a lot last month

Arrogant uninformed unable to change his opinion on players regardless of how they are playing and stealing a living.

Also ruins the otherwise excellent Monday night club

Not only you , Barry Neville usually has a rant when he is on the tellybox.

TBH, I have a very low opinion of most footballers.

Talking of punditry

Also the commentators on BT Sport annoy me beyond belief.

people are exercised far more by pundits than they are about footballers

interesting.

Rooney.

Too many reasons to dislike him immensely.

You hear a lot more from pundits than you do footballers

Two of the more disliked footballers from the last decade or so would be bellamy and adebayor.

Both have pumped millions if not tens of millions into charity projects as have many others.

Definitely Adebayor!

I wonder why that chap bought a small step with him?

I'm mortified that these two played for my club

I like Adrian Chiles. Seems like a really nice bloke but way out of his depth presenting football on tv.

I really like Merse as a pundit. Cracks me up and doesn't take himself too seriously like so many of the pundits do.

Don't mind Crooks or Claridge either.

I must be going soft in my old age.

totally hated signing this man

about a month later he got the opposing goalkeeper sent off in a play off semi second leg

all was forgiven lol

Two facts I did not know about him until just looking at his wiki page.

He played 88 times for Darlo.

I remember he played for Liverpool, but it turns out he only played 12 times, scoring 6 goals. Why did they get rid so quick after such a decent scoring record?

good question

i don't know, or can't recall

liverpool fans of a certain vintage might recall

This is a good article that explains it

http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2009/03/liverpool-fcs-forgotten-heroes-david.html?m=1

Very unfashionable player who the press hated. Seems the only reason he didn't stay longer was Dalglish leaving and souness not liking him (probably a good thing)

Barton as a player, villain, but as a pundit I really like him.  He comes across very well on Radio 5.
Claridge I also really like as a pundit - I always take him as honest and with good insight into the lower league stuff.  As a co-commentator he does struggle to let his pre conceptions go, but on the Monday night club he at least offers an alternative view.

Biggest Villain in Football for me. . .

Ooops forgot the tag - That is Adrian Durham from Talk Sport, even ignoring the Arsenal baiting he is awful.  Him and Collymore make the channel un-listenable IMO.

Durham is/was a superb broadcaster

Sadly lost to doing a show which generates a lot of money for the station and awful columns in the daily mail.

Easy to forget the shows he had on talks port 10 or so years ago on European football way ahead of their time and superb listens
