...a weekly competition along the lines of "how many goals will be scored this weekend in the English Premier League?

Generally, that would include the last match taking place on the Monday evening, so those who are close would have a real Monday night sweat.

It may need an additional (related) question, just so it's not too easy. Maybe how many draws, or whatever.

Free to enter, with a small prize, £20 ish.

Ideas, anyone?  

We could charge £1 or £5 or something, but that would make it too hard to run, fiddly bank transfers, & would put most people off, so it has to be...

Was thinking of running it this weekend, but really, it ought to go up a day or two before the weekend.

Different sports makes sense too.

Was thinking of this weekend's FI GP, but it is a middle of the night job, so not really suitable. 

Thinking about it, there are loads of variants. Just needs to be easy to manage, free to enter (imo) & hard to win.

Guess the total number of goals across the weekend.

Closest wins 80% of the pot and 20% goes to a "rollover" pot for the person who gets the answer exactly correct.

So if nobody got it correct in 8 weeks and we had 10 people in each week then there would be £80 in the rollover pot etc etc.

Happy to run if people think it's a goer also happy for any other ideas than total number of goals. Could do corners or something a little off piste but the easier the better to get more numbers in.

Ideal would be (IMO of course) something that prodcues a pool of £100 or so a week and then a tougher part rolled in that hopfully pumps out a £500-£1000 win every couple of months.

I would allow whoever wanted to play each week an opportunity to therefore if it rolled over 10-15 weeks it would become big +EV to enter so should help more and more join.

Im thinking goals in England for a weekend may be a good way to go, no idea how many are expected probably about 120? which means that with 20ish each week we should have a good chance of rollovers.

Possibly say Max of 2 entries per person or 4 to bump up entries a little bit.
