Title: Stats quiz.......
Post by: tikay on September 28, 2015, 11:07:47 AM
Couple of silly football stats questions this morning, if you have any, stick them up please.

My first question is.....

Peter Crouch has done it 72 times, Ryan Giggs has never done it.

Done what?

Careful, a supplementary follows.....

Colder.

Buzzharvey's answer was a bit of a clue. Not a trick question, either.

Title: Re: Stats quiz.......
Post by: TightEnd on September 28, 2015, 12:14:31 PM
i know the answer (this morning's times) but won't spoil it

The Seattle Seahawks beat the Chicago Bears 26-0 last night

In the game, something happened that hasn't happened in an NFL game for 35 years.

what is that?

Well that's remarkably close, as he played for Spurs 73 times, but you are barking up the wrong street. Sort of.

Guessing as Ryan is a one man club.....is it the amount of times Crouch has played against former clubs. (maybe a bit high).

That or made love to Abbey Clancy after a Stoke win at the Bit. Then again....with Giggsy's reputation...

....is the CORRECT answer.

Crouch has played 72 times v former clubs, whilst Ryan has played nil, as he has only played for one club.

The supplementary is much more difficult, but is related to the previous question.

Which player - he retired last year - has played against MOST former clubs? Some clues for this one. Never played at the top flight, was on the books of 14 different clubs & was probably loaned to at least another 14.  His loan spells are not included in the answer.

Chompy might get this, so might horsey.

again not bad

the answer is as follows

"    ESPN Stats & Information

How bad was it for the Chicago Bears today?

Their 10 possessions went punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt.

We're able to go back to 1980 and can tell you that it's the first time a team has punted on every possession in a game within that time."

My 1st guess was Kevin Phillips, but he has obv played top flight. My 2nd guess was it maybe a goalkeeper, but carnt think of a multi club one that retired last season.

My last shot in the dark guess......Howard Webb?   ::)

No - it is NOT Trevor Benjamin. (Now I know why you thought Leicester was his 2nd club, not 1st).

The question is "faced most former clubs", NOT "played for most clubs".

Tighty - it was at the foot of the same piece in the Times as the Crouch/Giggs question.

Pretty sure horsey will kick himself, & Doobs definitely will, as the lad played for Bradford City a few years ago.

The fellas's name is Guy Branston.

Shearer has not.

Gerrard has not.
Giggs has not.

I was hung up on Steve Claridge, but knew he didn't quite fit.  Even when I googled it after, I kept getting Claridge and Benjamin.   But I saw Guy Branston's name in a forum discussion and he fit.

Good question

Wonder if he gets most clubs he was captain at too?  He must be close
