Title: Image hosting. Post by: RED-DOG on October 08, 2015, 08:33:52 AM ATM I only use image hosting sites so that I can post pictures on blonde but I'm thinking it's time to start using one as a way to store my pics and keep them safe.
I currently use Photpbucket, it works well but the adverts are annoying. (Perhaps they disappear if I pay a sub?) I'm looking for recommendations really. Something user-friendly that's not going to go tits op in a couple of years taking my pics with it. Oh and one that re-sizes my pics before they upload would be great. (Do they do that?) Most of my pics are about 12mb which is great when I want to edit/crop/print poster size, but other than that 1mb is fine for general veiwing. Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: Jon MW on October 08, 2015, 09:53:38 AM I upload my photo's to facebook, partly to share with family and friends - but mainly as an emergency backup.
My phone automatically backs up pictures to google as well. Both have the big advantage of being free (also easy to use and they don't seem to do anything to 'damage' the quality of the copy their keeping in any meaningful way) Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: Graham C on October 08, 2015, 09:58:57 AM Flickr is great but I'm not sure it resizes them. On the plus side, you get 1tb of space free of charge. There are ads in the free version but you'll hardly notice them and they don't impact on the photo viewing.
FWIW, Facebook will resize your photos for you, you could always do that and only allow your friends and family to view them. Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: Graham C on October 08, 2015, 10:01:00 AM Flickr also has a free app you can use
Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: RED-DOG on October 08, 2015, 11:26:36 AM Thanks. I need to resize before I upload. I take a lot of pics and huge file sizes are data, space and battery heavy.

Facebook (God help me) seems ideal. Easy to upload, automatic re-sizing, but could I say... link people here to a picture hosted on Facebook like I do with photobucket.? Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: Graham C on October 08, 2015, 06:13:33 PM You can yes, just copy the url of the image (right click, copy image URL) and paste in your usual method, Remember to remove the S from HTTPS - eg - https://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/1958267_10151981777930264_1840769760_n.jpg?oh=f6b31e835f59e1e11abec03de35bfdd9&oe=569EF41F
remove the S and put in the img tags - (http://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/t1.0-9/1958267_10151981777930264_1840769760_n.jpg?oh=f6b31e835f59e1e11abec03de35bfdd9&oe=569EF41F) Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: RED-DOG on October 08, 2015, 07:13:35 PM Right Graham, I've done an experimental upload to Mrs Red's facebook and I've created an album. atm the photos are for me to view only. I assume I have to make them public before I can link to them?

I assume I have to make them public before I can link to them? yeah Thank you for that detailed explanation. BTW- Are you still the Scottish Blonde Irish International Champion? Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: Ironside on October 08, 2015, 07:46:22 PM no i am still the international Irish champion and will be till the end of time as the international closed down
Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: Graham C on October 08, 2015, 07:46:57 PM If you're using Mrs Red's FB, why not create an album for Mr Red and upload your photos to that, no need for your own FB account.
Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: Ironside on October 08, 2015, 07:47:46 PM oh and i thought you explained it well yourself just make the photo viewable to public before you put img on here
otherwise we will just get an message saying its not viewable even if you see it showing on your page Title: Re: Image hosting. So if I do that will all her friends be able to look at my album whenever they like? They already think I'm mad, I don't want to prove it. Title: Re: Image hosting. Post by: Graham C on October 08, 2015, 08:23:16 PM They will yes but they'll probably friend you and be able to see them anyway
