Title: Ten To Follow Comp
Post by: Doobs on October 22, 2015, 07:57:46 PM
Just to gauge interest.

Provisional rules

£50 entry for each list, though we can do £15 for smaller pockets, so it will run as  two comps: 15+35.

Pick any 10 chasers/Hurdlers/nh flat horses.

10 points for each win, but 15 for 30k race, 25 for 50k race.

Bonus points for sp>= 4/1.  4 for 4/1, 5 for 5/1 all the way to 33 for 33/1 winner.

Additional 25 points for any winner at cheltenham festival or Aintree festival + a few other big races, eg king george, Lexus.  List of all these races will be up before entries start.  Only gb and Ireland nh races count (chases, hurdles, nh flat or bumpers).  So if your horse shows up at Wolverhampton for a standard flat race tough look.

Max 2 lists per person, but only one list if you are doing £15 (I don't want double admin from people doing 2 £15s rather than one £50, but don't mind running it for those who think £50 is too steep.

Maybe 1 sub allowed a week before cheltenham.  Can't do this the night before.

Comp starts PP chase day, think it is 14 November, entries paid by midnight day before with list of 10 horses.  Comp ends on grand national day.

I Will try and put weekly updates up, but not promising.  I'll also put up some ante post lists and Timeform ratings for help picking horses.

I will be entering 2 £50 lists.

1-10 runners, 1 prize, 11-20 2 prizes, 21-30 3 prizes etc.  will be decided before comp starts.

Entries so far Doobs x 2.  Prize fund £100.

oooh, was beginning to think this would be a washout.

For those who don't really follow racing, you can have a good go at this just by picking well known horses that have a good chance at Cheltenham.   It will certainly be a better strategy than finding a horse to win a couple of Ludlow bumpers.  They'll also be a lot of randomness caused by injuries too.  When the Tote used to run this, you'd generally lose 2 or 3 a list by Cheltenham, and I am fairly sure I have done at least 5 in some lists.

Odds are all here for cheltenham

other big races here

Big races that will get bonus points will probably include the Betfair Chase, Tingle Creek (love the Tingle Creek), King George, Lexus Chase, Christmas Hurdle (Kempton), Irish Hennessey Gold Cup (Feb) together with everything at Cheltenham and Aintree

If we get a big entry, it will likely go to the wire for the last week at Aintree with a fair few possible winners for the big prize.  Plenty of banter opportunities over the next few months.  May even tempt Mr Channing And Adz out of retirement.

PS watch out for Tikay, he is a an absolute shark at ten to follow comps.

I can take Stars.  It will start on the 14th November if we get enough.  Team lists and money will have to be in the night before.

I'd like a bash at this Doobs, but I'm completely out of touch with horse racing these days.

Would it be deemed improper if I paid the fee, then in return for a share of the potential profit, got someone else (who would not enter) to make my selections?

I have a chap in mind who would find £50 a bit rich, but he knows his onions, can tell a swan from a goose, & a myriad of other dumb analogies.
