Title: Microsoft Office
Post by: verndog158 on October 24, 2015, 11:31:57 AM
Hi all,

One for the computer wizards.

Cliffs:

Bought new laptop last year,

Got Microsoft Office 1 year free membership with it.

Now membership has run out and they are asking for £70 A YEAR!! for subscription which is ridiculous surely.

Best alternatives? Obviously need mainly Word and Excel for work documents/ grind spreadsheets etc. This can be downloaded for free?

Anyone have a license code they dont use?

Thanks for the help

Chris

The first link gives 5 alternatives. The top three look particularly good and I know I've used number two before. (OpenOffice) :P

Open Office is very good.  I believe Google do a documents thing that's free too.  Alternatively, perhaps either your or your other half (if you have one) work for a company that's part of the Microsoft Home User Program?  (HUP) and can get it for a tenner http://www.microsofthup.com/hupuk/home.aspx?country_id=GB

Even without that route surely the one-off purchase isn't that high?  I think I paid £100 or so for Office 2010.

£70 a year is dirt cheap, surely? It used to cost £350+ to buy (but it's got loads cheaper thanks to massive piracy at least for home users).

Anyhow if your needs aren't that much, I'd second Google Docs. It's fairly rubbish but it will do a grind spreadsheet no problem. What work documents do you need?
