Title: The UK Population Post by: TightEnd on October 29, 2015, 10:44:30 AM The UK's population will rise by 9.7 million over the next 25 years, say official projections releaased this morning by the ONS, to 75m
The number of 80 year olds and above is expected to double over that timeframe (lifestyle, advances in medicine etc) What implications do these projections have for the economy, the social fabric of the UK etc? pensions? housing? other issues? Probably have to get more people from other countries over here to work in healthcare jobs. Probably have to get more people from other countries over here to work in healthcare jobs. The NHS will be bankrupted by the use of health care by the elderly. Much more immigration will be needed to do health and social care jobs but will probably be blocked by the parties voted for by the elder generations. Ironic really. Title: Re: The UK Population Post by: The Camel on October 29, 2015, 04:06:40 PM I heard on the radio that a child born today will likely still be working until their mid 80s, and a huge proportion will live until they are 100.
Pretty horrifying really. Overpopulation will be a massive problem within just a few generations. Pretty horrifying really. Overpopulation will be a massive problem within just a few generations. It's a big problem now. The above is a big concern of mine, however, I have also been seeing evidence of the opposite too. Populations are decreasing in a lot of places (Japan in particular) and there are also a lot of people who think jobs will not exist in 50-100 years. There has been a massive increase of jobs in the service sector in the last 50 years. I have little doubt this will continue. Fascinating, hadn't really considered decreasing population in the world before as generally it's the opposite reported in the news. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Population_decline Found this quite interesting: In the current area of the Republic of Ireland, the population has fluctuated dramatically. The population of Ireland was 8 million in 1841, but it dropped due to the Irish famine and later emigration. The population of the Republic of Ireland hit bottom at 2.8 million in the 1961 census, but it then rose and in 2011 it was 4.58 million. a flu type epidemic or a war or famine will see the population decrease but 100s of millions or even more then the world will rebuild like its always done in the past untill it grows too big again Title: Re: The UK Population Post by: arbboy on October 29, 2015, 10:08:41 PM i think sooner or later there will be a massive decline in the worlds population a flu type epidemic or a war or famine will see the population decrease but 100s of millions or even more then the world will rebuild like its always done in the past untill it grows too big again Famine?
