14 x British Classics 4 x Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe Winners: 4,600+ Title: Re: Pat Eddery Post by: The Camel on November 10, 2015, 12:47:42 PM A very good jockey.
Always made me laugh because whenever he rode a Group 1 winner or a promising two year old he always said "this could be the best I've ridden" Title: Re: Pat Eddery Post by: atdc21 on November 10, 2015, 01:17:12 PM A very good jockey. Title: Re: Pat Eddery Post by: bobby1 on November 10, 2015, 06:58:53 PM Very sad news, can remember him being the first jockey to perfect riding from the front inside the last furlong in the late 80's. In those days most jocks rode like Richard Hughes and came with a late run to get up on the line. Eddery won so many races by taking up the lead and then just saving enough to get a little extra out of his horse when the 'on the line' finishers looked like getting to him.
Title: Re: Pat Eddery Post by: TheDazzler on November 10, 2015, 08:14:43 PM Pat Eddery was responsible for my biggest ever horsing racing win and he didn't even ride the horse.
It was the 1999 Oaks and Eddery was on the 3rd fav Claxon. I didn't even hear the quote myself but my flatmate told me that Eddery said the 2nd fav Ramruma was the best horse in the race. Pat knows racing so that was good enough for me. I got my weeks wages that morning, lumped the lot on Ramruma and he coasted home @ 3/1. Title: Re: Pat Eddery Post by: The Camel on November 10, 2015, 11:16:13 PM The final race on the day Dettori rode all 7 at Ascot, all the other jockeys didn't try an inch.
Except Pat, he threw the kitchen sink at his mount and nearly spoilt the magnificent 7. Massive will to win, and unusally for a jockey, I never heard a single rumour about his integrity.
