Title: Atlantic City
Post by: OverTheBorder on November 11, 2015, 01:05:13 PM
Planning to go to New York in February. Me and the wife have both been in a few times and thought it might be good to see Atlantic City.

Plan is to arrive on the Thursday, stay Thursday and Friday night and get to New York on Saturday.

Questions:

How bad will Atlantic City be in Feb?
Where would you recommend staying?
How do you get to AC from New York airports or should I fly somewhere else? I prefer not to drive

Any advice or AC tips greatly appreciated, guessing a few of you have been.

Went 3 years ago, wouldn't go again. The place is basically dying now surrounding states have casinos. I guess if you interested in seeing the mssive wealth divide in the us, this is place to start for the bad side but your got vegas to see both sides!

If i was forced to go again I would probably never leave the Borgata. No idea how to get their via public transport, I drove.

Hmmm I have done a bit of research and perhaps not wasting the time and staying in New York might be more sensible!

Its basically Scarborough bud, there is even (or was when I went) a crazy golf on the 'front'. I got the Greyhound bus and it is easy and not very expensive but it is a really underwhelming place and the general consensus is you don't stray off the main hotel/casino strip as it's not a place to go wandering around.

Two small upsides is if you get the Greyhound the Casino above the bus station cashed in your bus ticket for tokens to be gambled there but tbh its just going to get you a few spins on summat. If you wanted you could almost do without the hotel as the first bus back from AC to the main cities is around 6am in the morning so you can degen all night and then just get on the bus home.

I wouldn't make a special trip to go tho.

I went by Greyhound from NY to play a WPT at Borgata.

I had my buyin in cash in my pocket and I got the feeling if you tipped everyone else on the bus upside down you wouldn't find 10% of what I had on me. I basically shit myself the entire journey I was going to get robbed.

I gave my bus ticket to some geezer and he was like I had done him the biggest favour in the history of time.

Borgata was pretty nice though. Rooms clean and decent and a couple of ok restaurants.

The other casinos were horrible though.

Are you talking used bus tickets?  Why are they any good?

The Casino refund your bus ticket in tokens that can only be spent in their casino so it's their way of getting the punters from each bus to come into their casino first.

If you do go, only go to the Borgata.  The casino and hotel is of a decent Vegas standard, and they comp very well if you ask.  Poker is very good, they have decent cash plus daily tournies.  Restaurants are decent too.  For a couple of days I think its worth the trip just to go there.  Me and Sin didn't leave that hotel for 10 days.

They have some nice beaches nearby too.

The actual city is a total dump tho.  I had to go to the bank so ventured 'downtown'.  Housing projects, roads not bothered to maintain and very very poor people all around.  I really wouldn't go to any other casino.  Maybe Harrahs.

It all sounds a step up to what chris was used to seeing in Luton.

Enjoy the trip mate 👍🏼
