Title: 1980s signed cricket bat valuation Post by: arbboy on November 13, 2015, 05:34:15 PM I have a Duncan Fernley mint condition (never been used obviously and stored in plastic cover since signed) bat at my mums house signed by the entire Leicestershire/notts/yorkshire county sides from the mid 80s. One team is signed on the face of the bat and the other two teams are down either side of the back of the bat with captain at the top and then in batting order i assume. Players obviously include Gower/Willey/Boycott/Moxon/Bairstow Snr/Nick Cook/Aggers/Broad snr amongst others in those respective county sides of that era. Anyone got any idea what it would be worth?
Tighty probably the man who would know. Title: Re: 1980s signed cricket bat valuation Post by: ripple11 on November 13, 2015, 06:04:48 PM Looking at a couple of websites......I would guess a private sale might get you £100 -£150 ish?
I'm sure it would get a fair bit more in like a charity auction at one of those clubs,....if you felt generous. :) Title: Re: 1980s signed cricket bat valuation Post by: horseplayer on November 13, 2015, 08:16:08 PM Would agree
Private sale £200 absolute tops Charity auction at the right event £1000 ish Title: Re: 1980s signed cricket bat valuation Post by: arbboy on November 13, 2015, 08:29:22 PM I am not looking to sell it. I could be tempted to auction it for a charity if the money was right but that hasn't crossed my mind before. Didn't think there would be that much difference. I just found it at my mum's last week when i was there in my old bedroom. Had forgot all about it and was just interested in what it would be worth.
Cheers for the replies. If anyone else has an opinion keep posting. Title: Re: 1980s signed cricket bat valuation Post by: DropTheHammer on November 13, 2015, 10:05:35 PM Signed bats are really common, but I've never heard of one signed by three whole teams! That's cool but also a bit of a pain for the purchaser to try and display. Perhaps encased in a clear box from the middle of the room, a bit like an adult's Pinata?
Do the signatures still look clear? Those can fade over time, which has happened to one my old man has from the 90s. He also has Carl Hooper's burgundy floppy Kent hat, 'acquired' by one of Carl's colleagues. Apparently he was fuming when he realised it'd been pinched. But it raised a lot for charity at our Cricket club ;-) Title: Re: 1980s signed cricket bat valuation Post by: arbboy on November 13, 2015, 10:55:26 PM Signed bats are really common, but I've never heard of one signed by three whole teams! You can easily tell every signature with ease. Tighty would probably be able to name all 33 players. I have never seen a signed cricket bat before. It does look pretty cool how 3 teams in full have signed it in the way they have. I have no idea why the 3 teams were selected and how when it was signed. My old man won it in a raffle in his pub in the mid 80's. It is a decent DF bat for its age as well. Bat probably worth a ton on its own! Title: Re: 1980s signed cricket bat valuation Post by: TightEnd on November 13, 2015, 11:04:48 PM Couple of hundred quid I would guess. Any chance of putting a pic of front and back up? Will then tell you the names. Grew up with 80s county cricket

Title: Re: 1980s signed cricket bat valuation Post by: DropTheHammer on November 13, 2015, 11:08:32 PM Worth a ton back then maybe, but bat technology has come on a long way, now the top ones will feel loads lighter AND ping the ball to the boundary much faster!
Yeah signed stuff is so common, the players must sign things in the dressing room every game they play. But to get three takes some real planning. They must have got the front done first by the favoured team, then gone to the others (on the reverse) after. I bet they were miffed having to do them smaller and on the back :-D Title: Re: 1980s signed cricket bat valuation Post by: arbboy on November 13, 2015, 11:09:47 PM Think Leics is on the face of the bat if i remember right with Gower at the top.
