Title: Italy Itinerary/Info?
Post by: Woodsey on November 15, 2015, 04:14:23 PM
Seem to have been to Italy more times than I can count for work but have never been for a holiday, so gotta do it. Any advice on this Itinerary appreciated....

Thinking of this, will be there for 15 full days, most likely flying into Venice and out of Rome.

So I'm thinking

Fly to Venice

2 days in Venice

Rent car for 1 week and drive up though Dolomites/Alps/Italian lakes with just a rough route and stopping anywhere we fancy it to stay. Drop car off in Milan 1 week later.

Train to Florence, 2 days there.

Train to Rome, 4 days there.

Fly home.

Ty in advance.

If you love history, art or architecture spend more time based in or near Florence. Sienna is a beautiful city and places like san gimignano are well worth a visit.

Wherever you go drink the local wine and eat the local food would be my tip, but you likely already know this :)

I was going to suggest visiting the cricket ground of Milan CC.....in a beautiful setting at Grandola between Menaggio and Lugano ,near Lake Como.
Voted one of the most picturesque grounds in the world....mountains at one end......babbling brook at the other.
However they seemed to have moved since I played there a few years ago...so its probably a field of cows now  :(

If you want to treat your better half....this stunning hotel with its floating swimming pool is worth a visit  :)

Rome us fantastic.  Just walk around, so many nice places to eat/drink, so much history around.  If in Florence and fancy a trip out, Lucca is much nicer than Pisa in my view.  Never done the Northern bit from Venice to Milan.

Mate I would recommend flying into Verona, especially if you're going as a couple, dinner at Nastro Azzurro and an opera or concert in the Roman arena is a top night. Then get the train to Lake Garda and spend a couple of days bobbing around the lake to all the little towns, then train to Venice. Arriving in Venice by train is very cool because you walk out of the station right onto the Grand Canal, think it cost £18 first class from Garda. Venice is just brilliant. Florence equally so, statue of David is an abs must.
