Title: The best trip / holiday you've ever been on and why ?
Post by: tonytats on December 30, 2015, 01:27:46 PM
For me it was to Boston /cape cod area last year
Boston has a lot of history and there was a great trolley bus tour which was very informative
Cape cod as it was so scenic
I went in September so it was quiet too and took in Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket on the way along the cape to Provincetown
Then drove over to Foxwoods n Mohegan sun for the weekend
Having read Steven King books about New England I was also planning to go to Salem and along the coast to Portland but I got back n hip troubles from bad posture in the roller skate I rented
So that's another trip on the bucket list for the future - the east coast USA north of Boston

Just watched an HBO documentary on Cape Cod, about the Heroin problem there.

Sounds like you saw the better parts, for sure :D

2009 might be my best holiday, because as well as 2 weeks in Vegas, I did 4 days in Orange County, and a week in Breckenridge, too.

Got to do Disneyland as an adult, and spend time with family I hadn't seen for 15 years.

Breckenridge was like a different world, and who doesn't love a wedding abroad?

When I was in the RAF, a week long 'expedition' to Benidorm to play rugby. One match, a vicars night, a Viking night and a fake training session on the beach for some photo's for the Station Commanders report resulted in the best trip ever for me.

I worked in cape cod for 6 months or so many a year back after leaving uni, worked as a chef in a restaurant in Hyannis. Nice place as you say, plenty of rich tottee floating around on holiday back then also  8)

5 weeks in Cairns, and a week on the Gold Coast in 2008.

Had an apartment in a little complex on Holloways Beach, just north of Cairns. Great base to explore all that area has to offer; diving at the Great Barrier Reef, bungee jumping, sky diving, white water rafting (never again!). Went to zoo's, crocodile farms, Daintree rainforest, loads of trips and activities.

Then did various theme parks, water parks etc in Surfers Paradise down on the Gold Coast.

And as a cherry on the holiday of a lifetime cake, it was a bridge too far for myself and my GF, and we split up shortly after returning to England. Good times.

ibiza 99

14 days of being blissed-out, 19  and carefree.

friends, music and drugs - the 3 most important things in my late teens early twenties - ibiza had the best of all three that year.

"Out here we is stoned. Immaculate..." as the great man said.

*sigh*

antigua 2005.

Not a holiday/trip as such.  Went to work for redarmi out there for an online betting firm.  Job lasted 5 months but what a way to spend a summer and get paid for the pleasure (tax free as well).  Haven't been back since but definitely fancy a return trip without the work this time.  Company paid pad bang on the beach.  Incredible place to live.  I could count the number of nights in 5 months on one hand i actually spent any time in the apartment after work and before going to bed.  Proper alcohol fuelled summer on a proper party island.

Did Antigua in Jan 2006, as a stop on the Laddies cruise, and it was com.

Did a trip to the beach first, and ate some freshly caught BBQ'd Lobster. Amazing.

The we plotted up at some Rum shack on the beach for the afternoon, and the local boys spent the next few hours trying to flog us their gear*

May or may not be talking about sunglasses and beanies

Sounds like a pretty standard day on the island.  My fav sight in 5 months was seeing a 22 year old local male escort with an 80+ year old white grannie from USA.  Some incredible sights from that side of things on the island.

I routinely got offered the same 'gear' most days on the street at lunchtime by total strangers when i popped out of the office to get something to eat.

Yeah, was a pretty com day, and I can't imagine I've had been in very good shape had I stayed there for a holiday.

Didn't miss many of those Sunday's with the BA air hostesses after they have just landed off the plane an hour earlier.  The most insane outdoor nightclub anywhere in the world.

Imagine living there for 5 months then and trying to be in a fit state to work the next morning 6 days a week!

We went to New York last September.

Did all the usual things like catching a show on Broadway, and going up the Empire State Building (in the day) and the One World Observatory (at night)

As well as Central Park and baseball at Yankee Stadium

But what made it the best holiday ever was that we also went on a sunset yacht trip

(http://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xft1/v/t1.0-9/12003287_10153532498316043_7257820793011803417_n.jpg?oh=db448f35e657d32d8e2e2eb3cc0163c8&oe=57002BFE)

where I proposed and my girlfriend agreed to marry me :)

(http://scontent-lhr3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xft1/v/t1.0-9/12002750_10153534563991043_9082448584142186159_n.jpg?oh=e2d4789826bda050c3fefecdc1b6278a&oe=570A36AE)

Kind of hoping that this gets supplanted as 'best trip ever' next year though - when we have our honeymoon in Italy :)

New Zealand Spring 2013, toured the country for 5 weeks doing tourism and watching cricket (England were touring).

Just a wonderful country, the scenery is stunning, the Kiwis are super friendly laid back people.

Also met a cricket obsessed young lady, who I have been dating for the past 18 months.
