Title: Re: When prop bets goes wrong. Splashing the pot? Post by: Karabiner on January 12, 2016, 11:02:21 AM Bet was 100k Did being dq'd from the tourney mean that he lost the prop? Title: Re: When prop bets goes wrong. Splashing the pot? Post by: tikay on January 12, 2016, 11:27:34 AM The 2+2 thread rocketed to over 270 replies in double quick time. http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/29/news-views-gossip-sponsored-online-poker-report/antonio-esfandiari-disqualified-pca-main-event-1581066/ We have all done daft things which we regret, & this is something he'll be constantly reminded of for the rest of his life. I'm trying to decide what his sponsor might think of it all. Guess as many negatives as positives. Title: Re: When prop bets goes wrong. Splashing the pot? Can't decide if this is good for poker or bad for poker Not sure where to begin with that. Title: Re: When prop bets goes wrong. Splashing the pot? I almost feel sorry for Antonio, but make no mistake, this is a "Ratner moment" in his life. Title: Re: When prop bets goes wrong. Splashing the pot? Talal Shakerchi said it was for $50k, and that he won the prop bet. Title: Re: When prop bets goes wrong. Splashing the pot? Title: Re: When prop bets goes wrong. Splashing the pot? Post by: WotRTheChances on January 12, 2016, 07:10:03 PM I imagine it's not applicable to this case, but if you'd sold a % of this to various backers and then got DQd for this reason, what do you think the protocol is for compensating backers?
Do backers take this kind of risk knowing that he is someone who participates in prop bets regularly and might run into penalties as a result, thus no compensation given (and generally knowing people make mistakes and getting DQd is a risk for any player, albeit a very small one for most)? Do you refund backers all money invested including any mark-ups? (seems like the most likely and correct thing to do imo) Do you refund backers the EV of your stack at the point that you got DQd? Cliffs. He knows he did the wrong thing, was in a lot of pain, but that isn't an excuse, sorry, dq was correct decision, $50k goes entirely to charity. Title: Re: When prop bets goes wrong. Title: Re: When prop bets goes wrong. Splashing the pot? Post by: Simon Galloway on January 13, 2016, 07:00:11 PM What % of prop bets get filed? :)
When there were vids like LifeOfIvey knocking around, players were all very careful not to discuss amounts. If you actually had $200k of lunge action and then this happened, but you won your prop, giving the "entire" $50k to charity is about the same as paying tax on a $200k prop, plus you get to be seen as the good guy again.
