Title: Athletics doping crisis: UK Athletics wants to reset world records Post by: TightEnd on January 11, 2016, 01:24:04 PM what do you think about this?
not everyone at the time would have been dirty.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/35277793 Title: Re: Athletics doping crisis: UK Athletics wants to reset world records Post by: Doobs on January 11, 2016, 01:27:23 PM what do you think about this? not everyone at the time would have been dirty.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athletics/35277793 Seems a bit harsh on clean athletes such as Lord Coe. Title: Re: Athletics doping crisis: UK Athletics wants to reset world records Post by: AndrewT on January 11, 2016, 01:33:11 PM It would be harsh but then sometimes you just have to throw the baby out with the bathwater - of the women's track records probably only Dibaba's 1500m record is clean, and even then...
It would need Paula Radcliffe to come out and say she was happy for her marathon record to get burned for this to gain traction. What would happen if one of the superstars in Rio were found to have got there through drugs? Hit the refresh button? Asterisk the cheats unless and until we have a better system. Well, that's that. http://www.theguardian.com/sport/2016/jan/11/paula-radcliffe-uk-athletics-world-records-rejects Title: Re: Athletics doping crisis: UK Athletics wants to reset world records Post by: DMorgan on January 11, 2016, 05:00:37 PM Seems a bit much to scratch the lot
Hopefully it doesn't end up in limbo as the MLB is where Barry Bonds isn't in the hall of fame but gets to keep his all time leading home run hitter record Title: Re: Athletics doping crisis: UK Athletics wants to reset world records Post by: TheDazzler on January 11, 2016, 06:26:16 PM I think anyone who sets a world record should be banned. Or in fact, anyone who runs a 'silly fast time'. Banned.
Obviously 'a silly fast time' is a subjective thing so we would need an independent tribunal to decide. The tribunal would need someone of the highest integrity with no inherent bias as chairman. I propose Chairman Camel. First case, Lord Coe. Check it: 1980 Olympic 1500m Coe ran last 100m in 12.1 seconds, insanely fast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nKvbzPgYwbk 1981, Europa Cup: runs last 100m of 800m race in 11.3 secs, fastest ever finish for distance. Crazy that own Country's body currently tests, especially with all the politics involved ( USA v USSR as the biggest example).
Athletics also hasn't helped itself by only having 2 year bans for drug cheats, should be 10 if not a life ban. Certainly needs a line drawn underneath it somewhere, but not sure where or how it should be applied. |
