Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 11, 2016, 04:08:37 PM very unusual yes? I've never seen it in professional play and I've only seen it once, (and that was v me) in an amateur money match. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: BorntoBubble on January 11, 2016, 06:05:54 PM Wow!
Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: Doobs on January 11, 2016, 06:09:16 PM very unusual yes? [/quote Didnt this happen in another televised match not that long ago? Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 11, 2016, 06:19:21 PM It may have done Dooby, I've never seen it before though.
Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: Karabiner on January 11, 2016, 06:49:08 PM very unusual yes? I've never seen it in professional play and I've only seen it once, (and that was v me) in an amateur money match. I played hundreds of amateur money-matches during my years in Canada but never had a referee for any of them that I can recall, that was before the "miss" rule came into the game though. What we used to do was play "cue-ball fouls only" to avoid any arguments. It might have been Peter Ebdon who lost a game for misses before. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Normally these seats when I think something was a couple of years ago, it turns out to be 10, but this was 2013. YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0T83p5rXNA Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: arbboy on January 11, 2016, 07:21:43 PM Very rare they actually play the same shot the 3rd time. Seen it happen loads getting down to the 3rd shot after two misses. They usually play a less secure/defensive 3rd safety to ensure they don't concede the frame. Seemed an incredible bad risk/reward decision by Murphy to take the shot on for a 3rd and final time given how early in the frame it was and how many other options he could have used.
Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: doubleup on January 11, 2016, 07:25:49 PM Its actually happened a few times. In the studio right after, Davis said he had done it and Ken Doherty admitted to it as well. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 15, 2016, 12:39:15 PM O'Sullivan V Selby.
Selby makes a 70 break, O'Sullivan then pots a long one and goes on to make an incredible total clearance to snatch frame and match. I can't remember the last time I saw someone make a 70 and lose the frame. I don't like Ronnie but credit where it's due. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: TightEnd on January 15, 2016, 12:54:44 PM was an incredible clearance
not easy and he cleared them quickly, barely stopping to consider the shot. bosh, bosh and there he was his long potting was sensational all day yesterday, and i think he got in selby's head Title: Re: Ooh Misses... I can't remember the last time I saw someone make a 70 and lose the frame. I don't like Ronnie but credit where it's due. Did you see Selby's face when Ronnie started that clearance? He was in Nightmare City, wincing after every shot, he seemed to know that his missed cannon to break the pack was going to cost him. Great theatre. There is a You Tube clip of that frame on Fred this morning. With guys like Ronnie, like them or not, I'm always reminded of the sporting greats, Piggott, McCoy, Ali, Daley Thomspon, Stanley Matthews, Choc Thornton & so many more, & with hindsight, I wish I'd watched & admired more often when I had the chance. I can barely believe that Ronnie is in the twilight of his career, I really regret not watching more of him. We - well definitely I - will never see the like again. And as with so many, we have to prefix "genius" with "wayward" - Alex Higgins, George Best, & a good few others I suppose. Ain't sport great? I spent all of yesterday up in SB&G's Head Office, surrounded by TVs showing sport, & young energetic traders doing their thing. The buzz was wonderful. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... The break starts at 9.40. YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HouzpY3LJU Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 15, 2016, 01:34:37 PM there was an interesting indecent in the preceding frame. Selby had reached the point where O'Sullivan needed 3 snookers when he attempted to roll a red in. The red stopped on the lip of the pocket and Selby stamped his foot in a joke 'shake the table to make it drop' move.
Of course stamping on the floor had no effect and the red didn't drop but if it had, (because as is often the cases it was still moving and would have dropped anyway) the ref would have had no option but to replace it and call a foul. If you re-watch it, both players and the ref froze for a couple of seconds as they realised the potential consequences. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 16, 2016, 08:56:15 PM O'Sullivan V Bingham.
O'Sullivan supporters sound more like a football crowd. There's one woman who shouts "Come on Roneeee" every time Bingham misses. She has a voice like a rusty band saw cutting through a wooden leg with a nail in it. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: BorntoBubble on January 16, 2016, 09:15:06 PM Doing my head in, should kick them out. This is snooker, not the darts.
Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 16, 2016, 09:37:45 PM Bingham supporters at it now too. Ref should hoy a few out imo. Stamp his authority.
Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 16, 2016, 10:05:19 PM Interesting question from Steve Davis, or should I say question from Steve 'Interesting' Davis.
Put these in order of difficulty. Hole in one. 9 dart finish. 147. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: George2Loose on January 16, 2016, 10:09:08 PM Hole in 1
147 9 dart finish Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 16, 2016, 10:10:54 PM Ronnie is 5 2 up but playing terrible, as is Bingham.
Ronnie looks like he might throw a tantrum or burst into tears. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: BorntoBubble on January 16, 2016, 10:20:41 PM I could fluke a hole in one.
Other two would be very nearly impossible for me to do. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: Ironside on January 16, 2016, 10:23:56 PM Hole in 1 147 9 dart finish i have hit the flag on a number of occasions, i am lucky if i can get a single treble 20 or 3 balls in a break together so personally a hole in one would be easier Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 16, 2016, 10:38:57 PM My goodness, what an incredible final red that was.
Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: Karabiner on January 16, 2016, 11:01:21 PM I could fluke a hole in one. Other two would be very nearly impossible for me to do. It's an interesting question. I am pretty crap at darts but once had a 136 checkout(60,60,d8) I am a fairly decent golfer who has been a single-figure handicap player for 40+ years but have never had a hole-in-one although most of my contemporaries have had at least one and some as many as five. I was a good club snooker player and had a few 100+ breaks but never ever threatened a 147, unless you can call potting the first ten reds with blacks threatening a 147, which I don't because as soon as someone watching mentioned they had all been blacks and I was on one I lost position on the 11th and missed it. Title: Re: Ooh Misses... Post by: RED-DOG on January 17, 2016, 02:02:04 PM Ronnie says his back is out of alignment. It doesn't hurt but it prevents him from cuing properly.
Is he saying that to take pressure off himself or does he really believe it? |
