Title: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: TightEnd on January 13, 2016, 04:38:51 PM now that this is getting closer, does the idea enthuse us at all?

Like Liv? Seems a comical idea to me. Trying to turn poker into 20/20 cricket. 10 years too late imo. Missed any potential boat they had.
Title: Re: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: Longines on January 13, 2016, 05:25:12 PM Would struggle to care less.
When the press release says real-time hole cards, do they really mean that? Would seem more WWE than eSport if that's the case. Title: Re: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: DaveShoelace on January 13, 2016, 05:52:14 PM Only two of them has gone with a poker-y name (Moneymakers & Rounders).
Was expecting the 'Las Vegas Iveys' or the 'Montreal Negreanus' or someink. Maybe the "Berlin Bots' or the 'Moscow SuperUsers'. Maybe Antonio could captain the 'LA Piss Pots'. And so forth. Title: Re: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: Rexas on January 13, 2016, 05:55:11 PM Will watch if they allow the viewers to randomly change the players hole cards in the middle of the hand. Otherwise no.

Title: Re: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: Tal on January 13, 2016, 06:16:58 PM Rome Emperors?
Shouldn't these names flow off the tongue? You want to start the second word with a consonant, preferably alliterative and even more preferably linked in some way to poker or Rome. Rome Antics Rome Rangemergers Rome Raiders Rome Rockets Or maybe something different: The Triumvirate of Rome (if there's three of them) PT Roma (Poker Team) The Legion of Rome Real Roma (I know we already have the Royals) Rome Sweet Rome Rome Emperors. Yuk. Las Vegas Moneymakers, LA Sunset, London Royals: like those. So will they be playing in pyjamas, then? Tony G and Bumble on the commentary? Start the pushbike! GPL players will be compensated with : hourly salary + performance bonuses + % of team revenue (merchandising, ...) + all expenses paid. Interesting Title: Re: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: TightEnd on January 13, 2016, 06:52:37 PM Alexandre Dreyfus @alex_dreyfus
GPL managers are committed for 2 years. Same for players. We wanted to avoid volatility, to increase Fan Engagement. Funny they make Liv captain of London Royals though. Moorman/Channing/Trickett would make sense for different reasons. Guess Deyfrus trying to keep on Stars side for some reasons.

How many EPTs have those three won? Also, stop trying to take this seriously :D in excellent news, Last minute confirmation, the GPL Draft livestream will also be co-hosted by RealKidPoker. Title: Re: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: AlunB on January 19, 2016, 10:03:06 AM I've gone from absolutely hating this idea to quite liking it. It's really all going to be in the execution and I'm not totally convinced on that yet. Trying to create legitimate sustainable poker "stars" for a new generation and using a bunch of last generations increasingly irrelevant stars to front it seems a weird idea to me. I get that they are managers and not players though so maybe that will work.
Title: Re: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: scotty77 on January 19, 2016, 10:15:25 AM I hope it works. Poker needs something new.
Was watching a load of the old poker shows recently. While most were turbo SnGs, at least they were being made and they tried. When did Late Night Poker last have a series? One thing that annoys me about this is using the word franchise, as if Boris Johnson went out to Malta to bid to have a London team. It's very much being made for an American audience, so they are using the language of American sports. Title: Re: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: Boba Fett on January 19, 2016, 04:13:06 PM I dont care enough to google but on none of the links can I find anything with the original concept.
Is it a fantasy draft type of thing where they pick players and get points for their performance or have players signed up for it? Will it be based on results in the current yearly schedule or will they be running their own tournaments? Title: Re: GPL announces 12 franchise teams/managers for its first season Post by: bergeroo on January 19, 2016, 04:35:00 PM the players actually play and they play in a giant cube thing with spectators! At least that's the plan.
