Certainly didn't see that coming. I hope they don't mess with the original format too much as I'm not holding out much hope for the new TG so far.

I hope they do mess with the format as it was getting very stale. I enjoyed the straight car reviews, star in a car but their jolly japes and pranks had  ridiculously formulaic. It needed shaking up.

Oh no really? I loved when they went on the big adventures with the supercars across Europe and the races against the boats/trains/planes etc. If they could've just axed Hammond from the show and replaced him with literally anybody on earth it would've been even better.

The road trips were good because of how the three presenters played off each other so well. They had a great rapport which made it watchable and you really felt as though they were three mates going on a road trip that potentially any of us could do.

Evans, Joey and the other fella whoever it is need years to build up the kind of relationship those three had. I just hope they don't try to fake it too much because that'll ruin it. Maybe that's why they need an actor?

i thought the road trips made it too

le blanc is clearly a car nut, knows evans well and depending on the identity of the third person you have a decent chance at re-creating that charisma imo

That will help enormously.

FWIW I'm not a huge Evans fan but I think Le Blanc is amazing. Just comes across as a normal bloke who you could happily go to the pub with for a few beers and a chin wag about pretty much anything.

Used to find the previous format entertaining in parts but so many things about it used to annoy me that I only watched it half a dozen times in the last ten years, particularly 1. the silly voice inflections that all the presenters used, though mainly the ***** who was the main presenter, 2. the ***** who was the main presenter and 3. the sycophantic live audience.

Matt Le Blanc though. I'd definitely watch to see him, or at least give it a chance. Really liked him in Episodes.

The problem I had with the road trip things was they were scripted and stage managed. More a comedy sketch show than a car programme. in the end the parody detracted from my enjoyment of the mission.
