Title: Suggestions for Naps/Tipping League Post by: tikay on May 12, 2016, 05:35:05 PM As you know, our first Naps League is in full swing, & is proving immensely popular. Some suggestions have been made as to how to improve the format for future renewals, as to "mirror bets" (weekends), & the habit of some to go for Banzai Bets in, say, the Golf. A "Last Man Standing" version was also suggested. Also, would blondes be prepared to pay an Entry Fee, if so, how much? £1 £2, £5, £10? (Edition 1 has 60 Uniques so far). Rather than clutter up the Naps League thread, any suggestions, please make your observations or comments on this thread. We'd really like to do something similar at some point, assuming we can find someone to run it, & we ought to be able to learn from Edition 1. As Tighty says, sometimes you're got to try it and then tweak it as necessary. Title: Re: Suggestions for Naps/Tipping League Post by: Peter-27 on May 12, 2016, 06:34:43 PM I would happily pay £10 to enter the game.
I've enjoyed the format we have at the moment, everyone has a shot at the top prize, even if you're bottom of the pile on the last day. Adds excitement for me. I think it makes sense to keep the idea of the comp discrete from TfT. You want the two threads to be running at the same time. If people are throwing darts, that's fine. It isn't an EV comp. The optimal line is not going to be finding seven 2/1 shots at 3/1. It's more likely to involve a few good bets in the week and a speculative but logical punt or two at the weekend on a 25/1+ shot. Nothing stopping people cross posting on Fred if they fancy stuff and Fred is the place to put the reasons for the bet up. Also, it's a bit of fun. Format works fine for me. It's a cracking comp and I'm looking forward to nearly pure bubbling it. Title: Re: Suggestions for Naps/Tipping League Post by: POWWWWWWWW on May 12, 2016, 07:11:12 PM I'd be in for £10, sounds fun.

This Title: Re: Suggestions for Naps/Tipping League Post by: Dekka on May 12, 2016, 10:38:04 PM I think the job that Mere's done has been nothing short of astounding. I'd happily pay a tenner in future too.
Not sure about how to improve the format. Maybe run the comp over a week and give everyone 50 or so points to start. Make the min bet 10pts (5 e/w) but allow the max bet to be 50pts and let people bet their points on any events on any days within the 7 day period. Not sure if this would be less or more admin. I've felt a bit forced to chase the leaders by finding longshots rather than value which means the quality of the tips has no doubt suffered, it's also probably easier to take this banzai approach because it's a freeroll. In any event it's been great fun so many thanks for running it. Title: Re: Suggestions for Naps/Tipping League Post by: aaron1867 on May 12, 2016, 10:40:56 PM It's only so busy because it's free. £10 once a month seems fair.

Title: Re: Suggestions for Naps/Tipping League Post by: tikay on May 14, 2016, 09:05:20 AM The current Naps League has been an outstanding success, way more than we dared hope, but I doubt any of us envisaged how much work would be required by Mere &, to a lesser degree Tighty. Mere has devoted over 4 whole days to it already, Tighty a full day + extras. It is their work which has made it successful.
A future version needs to be something less work-intensive in the Admin department. Any suggestions along those lines would be very welcome. We would also need to take on board some of the suggestions made to try to improve it. Bear in mind that most years (not confirmed this year yet) at this time of year, Mere usually runs..... WSOP Fantasy League (would start in a fortnight's time) Royal Ascot Tipping comp (would start in a month's time) I would really like to do hector's suggestion of something to celebrate every extra £1,000 Fred makes, too, & am happy to donate some prize money. Assuming we make another £1k, of course. So we need to put our thinking caps on. I certainly don't think we can reasonably expect Mere to do these things too often. Trivia fact - I believe this is the 30th blonde Comp that Mere has run. Title: Re: Suggestions for Naps/Tipping League Post by: tikay on May 14, 2016, 09:20:40 AM I wonder if there is any mileage in having a one week duration Tips League in which there is only one nominated betting event per day? It can be a horse race, a football match, anything - the Admin would select the Event daily, & try to make it something that had a good variety of markets. A football match, for example, has scores of markets. We then all get a multiple sweat at the same time, every day for a week, but most importantly, it massively reduces the Admin workload. Each morning, the Admin would post that "today's Event is......" & then we all have to find a bet in that single event. The Admin workload would be reduced substantially. If the nominated event happens on 21 Sunday's of the year, I'd be happy with that ;whistle; Title: Re: Suggestions for Naps/Tipping League Post by: stumpythefish on May 14, 2016, 11:11:11 AM Will be in for whatever decided £10 is right price imo

This seems the wisest suggestion so far. Everyone's sweating the same event, we'd be punting a range of sports and it sounds much easier for Mere or whoever does the admin. I'm in. If we do a paid one I think a "same event" and maybe an element of LMS might be worth chucking a tenner at.

If we do a paid one I think a "same event" and maybe an element of LMS might be worth chucking a tenner at. We have been discussing it this morning off-thread. The "Last Man Standing" has been discounted for this Comp, as, by definition, as people get busted out, they are no longer interested. The existing model enabled everyone to remain involved for all 7 days. The "same event" thing is probably off the list, too, as the fact we got so many different sports this time was seen as a big plus. We have the WSOP Fantasy Leagues next, then Royal Ascot, & maybe something for Euro2016, but we will definitely do another of these, albeit with a slightly revised format to reduce the time & admin needed. We also have The Olympics & Open Golf to consider. |
