Title: Surfing Post by: baldock92 on May 19, 2016, 03:04:55 PM Hi blondes, I wondered if anybody on here surfs regularly or has done in the past? I've had my first lesson today in Bali and absolutely love it, but of course I was pretty crap- lots of falling off and near drowning moments.
I was wondering if anybody could give any advice to a beginner- whether it's better to practice alone or keep forking out cash for lessons. Also how long would it take to get to the point where I'm regularly up and balanced instead of face planting the waves the majority of the time? http://www.surfaris.com/ (http://www.surfaris.com/) Was absolutely wonderful, back then we camped in the National parks surrounded by kangaroos and cooked over fires. There was no yoga, hairdresser and swimming pool* back then either. It was just starting up at the time so suspect it is the same operation. I never progressed beyong standing up and going in a straight line. On the last day I was still faling off more regularly than standing up. I was probably just about the worst of the beginners, and a fair few were the opposite. If you do start doing it by yourself, hire the big wide board. You aren't standing any time soon on a regular size board. Might have to have another go if I ever go back. I'm headed to Aus in just under 3 weeks so am very tempted to give that a go, looks like bliss. Not too bothered about the yoga or hairdressing crap though! It's not as easy as it looks for sure, went back today but barely managed to get up. I need a couple of days off to recover from getting hit left, right and centre... If it is similar to what I did, I would very much recommend it. You'll be in places where barely anybody else was with beautiful scenery and wildlife all around. Would do it again tomorrow. Maybe I'd even stand up more often than falling. I just went along on my own and it was no bother. I just got paired up with someone lone traveller in a tent. Our group was very much mixed ability/ages. It is hard to say it will be the same 20 years on, but looking at the website, it seems the ethos is still the same. |
