Title: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: neeko on February 02, 2006, 11:26:23 PM Poker is about many things but mainly it is about money.
From other froums (fora, forumi, ...forumus....... other forums) The game between Andy Beal (the very rich (Billionaire) banker) and a group of Poker Professionals is ON at the moment. "Fish" like Jen Harman, Howard Lederer, Tod Brunson + a others (allegedly) are playing Andy Beal. The game is Heads Up Texas Holdum, only the limits are not 2-4, but 50 - 100! That is $50,000 - $100,000, which in the bizarre world that is limit holdem, means that the blinds are 25k, 50k preflop and ultimately 100k per bet. It appears that Tod Brunson played last night and was down 16.5BB's (which is just variance) and Jennifer Harman is playing at the moment. "The Corporation" should have an advantage as they get to choose who plays at any time (Plus, not least, they are professionals). They are rumored to be playing for a few days at the Wynn Las Vegas. I am not sure if I want to cheer on the underdog, or the “Hero’s” of TV poker – Are just a few days too short to decide a winner? Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: Sheriff Fatman on February 03, 2006, 12:59:43 AM Latest report from Vegas is that the pros were down $3.5m during Harmon's session (presumably this is cumulative after Todd Brunson played yesterday).
Apparently its a $10m freezeout being played in the corner of the Wynn. 6 people at the table - 2 players, 1 reporter and 3 security guards! He's now playing Ted Forrest - no idea on the state of play money-wise though. Sheriff Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: bundle on February 03, 2006, 09:06:34 AM We I find all this fascinating, so any updates would be well appreciated

I read this book about a month ago and if you havent read it you must go and buy it. It is a stunning account of poker at the highest limits. It is great to hear that this game is on again and I hope Mr Beal takes the lot home. If anyone has any news could they please post some updates. Thanks Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: Win Never on February 03, 2006, 02:05:33 PM Im defo gonna buy this book. Ted went on an absolute heater and erased all of the loss. he then proceeded to put the corporation up in the win column for the first time. our unofficial total is: +2.2 million for the 3 days. the mood of the pros was naturally up beat. Jennifer Harman was seen beaming throughout the evening... Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: bundle on February 18, 2006, 04:52:23 AM Well it looks like Andy took the corp for their 10 million, And the pro's no longer think they have an edge on Andy so are not likely to re buy...Game Over by the look of things

I wonder what the implications are for the reputation of poker's top pros? :D Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: I, Zimbra on February 18, 2006, 05:06:04 PM Oh, I mean to also say - read TBTPATSK and also though it was a good read... (I got my local library to get it in).
Fascinating to see how the game came about, the stages it went through - and what happened to the various participants in the little 'breaks' between Beal sessions (how some of them became well-known via the WPT, for example). Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: bundle on February 18, 2006, 11:31:21 PM Quote But then the corp are still "up" around 10 mil or so from the last time they played him (where they took him for 20+ mil)? They never took him for 20 mil. It was 3 Million, from my understanding, he then came back and took 10 million from the pros. so it looks like he is 7 million up, but someone reported he had turned round the 3 million loss and then went on to take them for the 10 million, and the pros don't think it wise to re buy.. The pros had thought their edge was 52/48 they no longer belive this to be so Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: AndrewT on February 24, 2006, 10:47:36 AM Over the last three days Beal has been playing Phil Ivey.
Ivey won $16.6 million dollars - Beal says he is now done with poker. Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: ACE2M on February 24, 2006, 12:48:18 PM Over the last three days Beal has been playing Phil Ivey. Ivey won $16.6 million dollars - Beal says he is now done with poker. Was ivey playing for the corp or himself? Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: AndrewT on February 24, 2006, 01:17:15 PM He was playing as part of the corporation. They played three times.
Day 1 - $30K/$60K - Ivey wins $2m Day 2 - $30K/$60K - Ivey wins $4.6m Day 3 - $50K/$100K - Ivey wins $10m Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: ACE2M on February 24, 2006, 01:40:46 PM I thought Beal was picking his opponents? Surely he wouldn't chose Ivey
and surely ivey is the best poker player in the world.... Title: Re: The Professor, The Banker and the Suicide King. II Post by: lazaroonie on February 24, 2006, 02:00:54 PM maybe a daft question, but are these games getting raked ? That could be a nice little earner....

Surely he wouldn't chose Ivey and surely ivey is the best poker player in the world.... The corporation could pick whoever they wanted to play, but Beal had right to refuse. Bear in mind there's an element of 'being able to beat the best' in Beal's challenge - he's not going to refuse to play someone just because they might be too good, especially if he hasn't actually played them yet. Ego wouldn't let him do that. |
