Title: Another poll, would you change your vote? Post by: TightEnd on June 28, 2016, 12:12:48 PM Compared to last thursday's referendum vote
irrespective of which way you voted, would your vote now be different to that way you voted then? Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? Post by: Graham C on June 28, 2016, 12:23:36 PM I was a remainer, not only would I vote the same, I'd try and encourage more to vote remain!
Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? Post by: muckthenuts on June 28, 2016, 05:20:08 PM I seriously doubt a single person who voted remain could now be convinced that leaving is actually the way to go lol. One of my best friends voted out because he disliked current levels of immigration. Now it's apparent that free movement isn't going anywhere if given the opportunity again he would vote remain. I would imagine there's many, many more out there like him.

Million dollar question, but those who value democracy probably should. Why? Well the democratic will of the people who decided to vote was to leave - regardless of their own individual reasons - and now all and sundry are trying to back track. Shock horror at politicians telling lies but the idiots who believed that £350 million a week could be pumped into the NHS or that house prices would reduce by 18% need to have a good look at themselves. I'm sorry, but you've completely whooshed me. Why does that mean that people who voted remain should change their vote? Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? Post by: hhyftrftdr on June 28, 2016, 08:54:22 PM A few people at work have said they regret voting out. They simply didn't realise what the strain on the economy would be if we left the EU. Too many focusing on immigration and failing to see the long term economic implications, higher prices, weak £ etc etc
Wonder how many more leavers have the buyers remorse? Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? Post by: teddybloat on June 28, 2016, 09:44:50 PM i voted leave, and was undecided for a long time.
i knew the economic outcomes would be grim over the short to medium term - how could you not there was consensus among experts. immigration was of zero concern to me [actually the focus on immigration was pushing me towards remain as i think immigration has been overwhelmingly beneficial to the country, and i didnt like the tone of some brexiteers]. if there were a referendum tomorrow i would snap vote leave again. haven't regretted the decision at all. would likely be much more active in campaigning for leave. Post by: Mohican on June 29, 2016, 03:45:19 PM I didn't vote. Had no opinion either way. But if the people in power try to weasel out of a decision democratically decided upon by the people with a second referendum,I would snap vote leave.

Red isn't the only one who's confused - you've said you 'should' change your vote, but you still haven't answered the question - why? Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? Post by: DungBeetle on June 29, 2016, 05:11:27 PM I think the point being made is that if there is a 2nd referendum then it is because the Government/EU think we didn't make the correct choice so are just going to make us vote again and again until we get it right. If that happens you can argue that I (as a remain voter) should change my vote to leave to protect the will of the people in the previous vote which should have been a one off.
Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? Post by: PokerBroker on June 29, 2016, 05:13:23 PM I said "probably should" and it seems pretty clear to me what the point is, as Dung has just said if you value democracy.

Thanks - I get your point but if this poll question had been, "will you change your vote if there is a second referendum?" then it would be a bit clearer what PokerBroker meant - I interpreted this poll question to mean the equivalent of - if you could go back in time and change your vote, would you do so? Hence my confusion - not so sure if Red had a similar idea. Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? It was clear to you, but as I said, it wasn't clear to me. Fortunately, DungBeetle has taken the time to explain so I understand now. I don't agree BTW, but I understand. Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? Post by: MintTrav on June 29, 2016, 08:58:23 PM People with the Leave view are trying to lock in the concept that a referendum vote is sacrosanct and can't be revised "if you value democracy". This is clearly incorrect logic. Referendums can be reversed. If the public votes differently in a second poll, that is the most recent will of the people and is clearly "valuing democracy".
This post isn't saying it should happen, but that it is a valid thing to happen. Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? This post isn't saying it should happen, but that it is a valid thing to happen. If they are years apart sure. But it also incorrect for a Government to batter citizens into submission by having multiple referendae until it gets the result it wants. I'd rather we stayed in the EU but the leave supporters are reasonable to point this out. Title: Re: Another poll, would you change your vote? Post by: OverTheBorder on June 30, 2016, 12:25:42 AM I was a remainer, not only would I vote the same, I'd try and encourage more to vote remain! This. Having worked my ass off in Scottish referendum. I thought this was a landslide. I honestly expected 60/40, I have been all over the country over the last year and never saw this coming |
