Looking for advice really on getting a new computer chair, something that's comfortable and offers support. Current chair just isn't cutting it and even sitting in if for a couple of hours with rest period breaks results in back and neck pain. Will be on a budget of around £150 but probably could stretch a little more if there's a really good chair a little above that.

Felt i had to ask somewhere because since deciding to get a new one I've just looked at pages upon pages of places on the internet and have no real idea of what I'm looking for to meet requirements.

Get away from the Internet, go to a shop and try some out....

What shops would you recommend. Only shop that sells them locally is Argos... obviously and sadly can't test them there, which is why I've been stuck looking on the internet. 

If i could pick any desk chair i have ever sat on it would be the chair they have in the Luton Hilton Garden Inn hotel at their desks in their rooms.  Incredible how they have such an awesome ergonomic chair in their budget hotel chain.  I spent most of the time staying there trying to work out how i could wheel it past reception and into my car!

Office world and staples....

Check out your local second hand office furniture dealers. Our local one in Boro had an astounding range last time I was there.

Make sure the seat's high enough that you can angle it slightly downwards at the front so your hips are higher than your knees.

Also the seat needs to be deep enough so that the whole of your leg is supported and your knees aren't about 6" beyond the edge.

You need to be able to do both of the above with you feet flat on the floor.

Chances of getting all of these without actually trying the thing out are pretty slim. If you're buying blind then get one with as much adjustment as possible to give the best chance of being able to set it up right.

These are just so good.  If you could pick one up for £150, just do it.  Might be easier in a second hand store than ebay.

I don't care if it's a £1 chair or a £1000 chair you need to sit in it personally to see it it's comfortable for you...

If it all fits apart from your feet not being on the floor - that's what a footrest is for.

I looked up the chair's that Hilton Garden Inns have after staying at the Bristol one - I can't remember what brand they are though just like arbboy said, they're really good.
