Title: who you calling a muppet? Post by: graeme on February 03, 2006, 12:55:02 AM Just read Royal Flush's post and thought I'd post this to get some opinions. Final table on a Laddies pot limit multi. We're down to seven players. I'd been getting junk for ages and was low-stacked (about 5xBB). I get K 10 off and call. Player to my left bets the pot and it's folded round to a player two seats to my right, who calls. Both of them have been quite aggressive so far. I call. I put 'Lefty' on overcards/high pair and reckon I've got two live cards and this is the best chance I've had in a while to get my stack back up. I've got good notes on 'Righty' and I'm not so worried about him. I've caught him stealing/bullying a few times and reckon he's at it. Flop comes Q A J: praise baby Jesus! I can tell 'Lefty's itching to get his chips in so I check to see if he'll go for it. He does and bets the pot again. 'Righty' folds, I push all-in and 'Lefty' calls. Turn and river are blanks. He has Qd and Ad, which is what I suspected. Anyway, he starts with all the 'muppet of the year award' stuff and how could you call with that ****. So my question is: did I play this hand properly or is 'Lefty' just a bad loser? Be as honest as you like. I want to learn to play 'properly' and want my meagre successes to come from solid play rather than just luck (although I'll admit that flop was a killerĀ :D). BTW: I went on to win the tournament so I can't be that much of a muppet. Can I?
Title: Re: who you calling a muppet? Post by: WellChief on February 03, 2006, 01:51:23 AM Yes you did play it badly. Sound like you limped in early position with K10 os with only 5 BB's. If you're going to play this hand then you've got to push all in preflop first to act. Not limp then call a raise when you're actually very lucky to have live cards.
Title: Re: who you calling a muppet? Post by: Wardonkey on February 03, 2006, 01:55:04 AM Well Chief is correct.
When your short stacked getting your chips in first is more important than the cards you hold. Title: Re: who you calling a muppet? Post by: graeme on February 03, 2006, 02:35:36 AM Thanks for the replies. The reason I posted was because a few players at the table thought it was a good call and the others disagreed. Just wanted to get some opinions here because the advice is usually very helpful. To be honest I think I made a decision, got lucky and then thought up some bulls**t to justify it. Wardonkey were you on the Blonde Bash video on 425?
Title: Re: who you calling a muppet? Post by: JungleCat03 on February 03, 2006, 02:44:46 AM If you put the raiser on high cards or a big pair, why would KT off be live?
78 suited yes, KT off it's highly likely you are dominated. I agree with the chief and the donkey that with 5 BBs u push rather than limp/ call a riase. Also the guy to your left who bet pot is raising to 4.5 BBs, so why check the flop! No one is passing to your .5 BB bet so just stick it in! Fair play u posted to get an opinion so respect due. Nice one on winning the tournament and i expect you were doing something right to get this far. The guy is wrong to call you muppet of the year tho, you arent even in the same league as the guy i saw calling allin hand 1 with Q9 off in a 36$ freezeout tonight. Title: Re: who you calling a muppet? Post by: Ironside on February 03, 2006, 02:47:41 AM if a guy has bet the pot after you have limped and you only have 5bb left 4 after your limp then you only have 1/2 of a bb left on the flop so surely you should of put it in preflop not matter what the flop was he would of had to call you anyway
Title: Re: who you calling a muppet? Post by: WellChief on February 03, 2006, 03:05:26 AM Another point graeme that I don't know if you're aware of is that K10 is RAGS, and shouldn't really be played in most circumstances, certainly not out of position.

Kind of don't feel so bad now :D Title: Re: who you calling a muppet? Post by: Wardonkey on February 03, 2006, 03:27:27 AM Wardonkey were you on the Blonde Bash video on 425? Yes I was, but they got the captions the wrong way round for Singsta and myself. Title: Re: who you calling a muppet? Post by: Royal Flush on February 03, 2006, 11:30:45 AM I think its a bad idea to limp any hand when you only have 5x bb. If you want to play the KT then make a decision and raise. Whether you do that or not from early position depends on the table and the other stacks.
However, well done! |
