Surely it's cheaper for multi millionaires to have decent security for themselves and their family than risk this sort of thing.

I  stayed in Trinidad a few years ago, when there was a rash of kidnapping rich foreigners for ransom. They all had security guards. The problem was that the guards didn't turn up on the days when the kidnappings happened.

Sorry my dear, I've been informed by Police that it's for the best if we don't do any sort of business with the kidnappers.
