Title: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: Ragz on August 02, 2016, 02:41:43 AM When you play live whether it be grosvenor, genting, WSOP or stars sponsored stuff, are you obliged to actually do interviews? If u win but refuse to stand there having your pic taken and answer questions can they disqualify you no refunds/confiscate winnings?

Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: TightEnd on August 02, 2016, 08:34:12 AM Certainly at some events, UKIPTs for example, WPTs, maybe GUKPTs too (?) you have to sign a waiver form before play allowing your image to be used, consenting to interviews etc
not sure what happens if someone refuses to sign, it must have happened... Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: POWWWWWWWW on August 02, 2016, 09:32:04 AM This was at EPT Monaco

Mind you I doubt they'd make such a fuss out of a random, Bonomo is obv high profile. No it's just I watch that annoying northern guy in the Grosvenor and Genting vids posted on fb and he's there lingering when it's down to small numbers, ready to pounce as you bust out and you barely get a second to breathe about it! I feel like I'd be like "dude get that mic out my face!" and get a reputation for being all controversial. I don't think he should be doing stuff like that without forewarning and ASKING people if they'd like to be spoken to on a camera.

Have to say I've got absolutely no time at all for that Grosvenor guy, find him really annoying, really obnoxious and doesn't seem to have a clue. Wish they'd find someone else to do it. Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: TightEnd on August 03, 2016, 07:10:37 PM that's a bad read, if i may say so
Phil Heald. top guy, very hard working and has done a lot for UK poker for a number of years. Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: Marky147 on August 03, 2016, 07:13:34 PM Only met him a few times, but he's always seemed like a nice chap, and a good laugh at the bar.
I know Rutter loves him, which is good enough for me. Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: cambridgealex on August 03, 2016, 07:35:43 PM jeeeez!! I mean 95% of the fields seem to know and like him and is very personable so I think he's a better fit that almost anybody. Granted his poker analysis might not be the best but almost impossible to have someone that's good at both and you can tell which one the Grosvenor team prioritise, and with good reason. He's their version of Tighty ;) Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: Rexas on August 03, 2016, 07:55:50 PM The not having a clue thing wasn't so much about poker, just generally saying I don't think he's very good. Can't deny he seems to be pretty popular though, and I've not really got a problem with him, I just find him annoying and choose not to listen to his stuff :p Sorta like how I feel about Justin Beiber, and I bet he's never had that comparison before!
Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: MintTrav on August 04, 2016, 08:10:02 AM He seems to only be interested in his clique of mates. How hard is it to find out the names of players you don't know who you are commentating on? I found it annoying to watch a rerun and find out that I was "the other player in the hand".

Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: tikay on August 04, 2016, 08:25:26 AM Really surprised to see Phil coming in for a bit of stick, he's a great big lovable lump.
A really hard working guy, & does not have a bad bone in him. Maybe he could learn to talk English, his accent is as broad as it gets, but we can't all be Londoners I suppose. If there were gongs for "Services to Poker" he'd have a cabinet full of them. Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: EvilPie on August 04, 2016, 09:12:58 AM jeeeez!! Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: Doobs on August 04, 2016, 09:17:45 AM Tower is a nice fella. As with all these things he is likely to search out those he knows/are known.
I am pretty sure I could have just pushed past him and said f off when I was 2nd in one of these. He asked if it was ok before the interview as far as I remember. He hangs round til early morning to watch the end and get the interview with his crew. To turn around and say no seems a bit precious in the circumstances. Can also say my mate who doesn't really play loved his commentary too. I think that is where we should be aiming. If only I could get the chance of an interview these days. If u win but refuse to stand there having your pic taken and answer questions can they disqualify you no refunds/confiscate winnings? Great Problem to have , given the choice 99% of people would agree to an interview if they knew they were going to win a tournament and wouldn't expect Frost or Paxman . As regards Phil The Tower , he is a great guy that works really hard and has a passion and enthusiasm for poker that is infectious , in a lot of ways he reminds me of Jesse May (reporter turned poker pundit/commentator ) Nothing wrong with his accent. Up The North ! Title: Re: question about live tv interviews and such Post by: DaveShoelace on August 04, 2016, 11:23:04 AM Just to join in the Tower love, he is a genuinely lovely fella and seemingly without shame (think taller more northern Tikay).
However, I 100% get why the first time you see him seemingly talking to himself up and down the card room it might seem a bit odd, but after the first time he makes the event more fun. He & I are of the same height, give or take a bit. I just dress better. And talk properly. |
