Title: You might be living in a simulation
Post by: TightEnd on October 11, 2016, 02:59:06 PM
no really

read this and wonder

- A swath of technologists and physicists believe that ‘simulation theory’ will be proved, just as it was proved that the earth was not the center of the universe

- argues that what we experience as reality is actually a giant computer simulation created by a more sophisticated intelligence

This has been about for a while.  It's almost like Pascal's wager in a way.  If you accept that such a simulation is possible, then it is almost impossible that you aren't part of one.  The first step on the way will be success in a reverse Turing's test, where the computer takes part in a Turing's test and doesn't realise that its a computer.

My guess is that they're called Frankie Mouse and Benjy Mouse.

Meh, David Icke sussed this out years ago.  Shape shifting reptillians are the ones controlling the joystick.

Presumably anyone who believes our reality has been created by a more sophisticated intelligence hasn't read some of the posts on Blonde.

So does this mean that there are 7 billion of us sitting in a room with headsets on?

Anyone watched the first season of WestWorld?

Anyone watched the first season of WestWorld?

Was saving it for the flight to Vegas, but not sure I'll be able to dodge spoilers long enough, as everyone I know has already watched it.

Sam Harris talks a lot about AI, and he has been discussing it again in some recent podcasts.

I don't see the relevance of pascials wager.

But does it matter? If we are living in a simulated world where our consciousness is simulated then so what? Even if our free will is actually an illusion and what we experience as a series of free choice is actually us riding the tracks of predestiny we can do bugger all other than enjoy the ride.

Occam's razor applies here. Yes it  could be a convincing illusion, yes we could be a product of our future selves. Or we could be our present selves. Both situations would conveniently appear the same.

Keep calm, carry on etc

We're probably all the basis of a huge prop bet: how long before we destroy the earth/all inhabitants.

Starts off a bit slow but ends brilliantly. Not to mention the whole thing is about simulated consciousness.
