It's almost like Pascal's wager in a way. If you accept that such a simulation is possible, then it is almost impossible that you aren't part of one. The first step on the way will be success in a reverse Turing's test, where the computer takes part in a Turing's test and doesn't realise that its a computer. But does it matter? If we are living in a simulated world where our consciousness is simulated then so what? Even if our free will is actually an illusion and what we experience as a series of free choice is actually us riding the tracks of predestiny we can do bugger all other than enjoy the ride. Occam's razor applies here. Yes it could be a convincing illusion, yes we could be a product of our future selves. Or we could be our present selves. Both situations would conveniently appear the same.
