The difference in the way people play on 6 Max v full ring are quite marked on standard tables but seem much less obvious on Zoom tables.

Which version do we choose to play and why? How should we be adjusting our game to suit one or the other?

I realise that this is a very broad question but any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

Sadly these days any advice would start with get a hud and 50k hands worth of stats and take things from there.

I think RED, The answer for you, if it's you personally you're asking about would be a simple "follow the feeling"  people are typically going to play now aggressive and looser in 6max and slightly tighter maybe in zoom. You might find that reg 6 max is a bit too loose for you but zoom 6m plays better.

Without following doubleup and getting yourself at least 20,000 hands in each format played and analysed then that's your answer, go where you get Comfortable.

zoom games give the ability to get in a lot more volume quickly, and reduce the ability to pick up reads/dynamics/specific seat position game flow.

4 tables of zoom tables is like 12-16 tabling standard tables imo.

In terms of what YOU want to play what do you enjoy more, the standard games will get bumhunted very hard at most stakes with seat scripts and people following those they have tagged as weaker and obviously at zoom you just join a player pool and off you go so that is less of a consideration.

If you get bored at standard games then maybe 1 table of zoom is perfect for you, ofc regs will be in multiple times so the ratio of fish - regs in zoom is alot lower than the number of each in the pool.

MTTs are alot softer and can provide better bang for your buck in terms of just trying to have an evenings entertainment, but ofc you can't stop at your own leisure so that's another consideration.

But do I actually need my own hud and 50k hands to get a general answer or can someone tell me? I mean, I know what the Tarantula Nebula looks like but I don't have my own Hubble telescope.:P


I'm not looking for information on individual players here, I'm just wondering if recs who have the option of an instant replacement hand make any distinction between 6 max and full ring zoom and if so why.

There is an inherent difference in utg in 6 max and the same seat (with reference to the bb) in full ring, as your opening range seemingly must be tighter as in a significant number of cases someone will have already opened.  There is also a problem in 3 betting EP opens in full ring as the opens are generally so tight. 

Effectively you need to either have a range of strategies you will employ vs certain player types and particular tactics you can employ against players with exploitable leaks. 

......Or just set mine and bluff when you miss  ;)

There is a difference in table dynamics and also a difference in steal % as ppl will click fold in zoom, but have a go in full ring if they have the opportunity.

What about zoom full ring?

I'm talking about zoom full ring.  On the button it takes a lot longer for people to fold to you than 6 max, so many will just click fold with marginal hands unless there is some compelling reason not to do so.  In normal full ring people wait until the table pops up and anyway won't get another hand any quicker by clicking autofold, so they are more likely to have a go at stealing if they are folded to and the opportunity is there.
